“Wonderful hotel that feels like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

My first thought upon entering this lovely boutique hotel was: "I could live here!" The atmosphere and ambience is one of elegance and cozy charm, much like a country manor. We spent Christmas Eve there while visiting family in the area, and thoroughly enjoyed the festive holiday decor (blazing fireplace and towering Christmas tree in the lobby). The restaurant is excellent; the hotel staff is very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Our room was spacious and tastefully appointed, with all the amenities, and the beds are divine! While we had no need of it on this visit, the hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle to restaurants, private homes, or wherever one wishes to go, which is a wonderful service for guests unfamiliar with the area. This was our first stay at this hotel -- we will definitely be back!

The Stanford Park was our home away from home for a week over Christmas while visiting family and friends. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable and spacious room (ours had a fireplace and balcony), and genuinely pleasant staff. All the features of a five-star hotel at a fairly reasonable price. The pillows are fabulous!

The staff is very friendly and helpful; prompt delivery of luggage and other packages from the front desk. The amenities are nice (wine tasting on weekday evenings, cookies on weekends), but you do pay $18/night as an ammenity fee. Might be more worth it in the summer when the outdoor patio and pool/jacuzzi are usable.

Also didn't find the CalTrain noise to be much, despite the track being nearby. The train goes by maybe once an hour and with windows/drapes closed, not too noticable. Couldn't hear it at all when the heater fan was running.

Would likely stay again the next time we visit the area.

We stayed 2 nights to tour Stanford campus. This hotel was extremely nice and comfortable, considerably less expensive than some of the other high end choices. We had a car so we didn't use the free car service but that is a nice touch. We were upgraded, without asking, and the room was perfect. The beds were fluffy, many pillows, the room and bath very clean. We had excellent breakfast in the restaurant and a sandwich in the bar to watch some football. We were very satisfied with the whole experience.

We have stayed many times at this impeccable hotel. It keeps getting better and better! This trip was early December and when we walked in, it was if we had entered a gorgeous manor home. Magnificent classic Christmas decorations filled the lobby.... a gorgeous sparkling tree was in front of a roaring fireplace. From the complimentary daily wine tasting between 5-6 to the yummy hot chocolate chip cookies and coffee later in the evening... No detail is overlooked. We had a large group for dinner at the newly redone Restaurant - Menlo Grill. Superb food, service and very reasonably priced! Lovely breakfast offerings in the lounge each morning if you don't care to have a full breakfast. The rooms are wonderful! Semi canopies over luxe beds and comfortable sofas; desk, mini bar... Every amenity! Bathrooms and dressing areas are so well designed - complete with magnifying mirrors, French terry robes, fluffy towels.... The works! This is the only place to stay... Can't wait to return!

I returned to the Stanford Park Hotel while visiting my family over Thanksgiving. Perhaps it was the time of year or the holiday spirit, but I was struck by the difference in atmosphere: from a hotel that was catering to business interests to a hotel that was more concerned about the tourist. I stayed in a lovely extremely quiet room that faced the swimming pool and enjoyed the amenities the hotel offers: wonderful chocolate chip cookies with tea and breakfast in the menlo park restaurant. Both were superb. The housekeeping could still use some improvement; Used glasses were not taken away after use the night before and tea bags were not replaced once used. The experience, however, was much improved after my last visit.

Room Tip: upgrade to a suite that faces the pool for the most quiet rooms

If you are doing business in or around Palo Alto this is a fine place to stay. I've stayed here several times and it's consistently clean and comfortable. Service has always been prompt, food is good and location is excellent. It's located between a major road and a train line, but noise has never been an issue because of the double pane windows. The decor is a bit dated and in keeping with a country lodge theme, but that is a minor quibble.

The Stanford Park Hotel makes for the perfect getaway whether you are taking a weekend trip out of San Francisco or traveling up/down the California coast. This hotel truly sets the bar for fantastic hospitality. Some standouts about this property:
1) The coziness factor. I don't know about you, but feeling that instantaneous sense of warmth is an important factor when I'm sleeping away from home. Stanford Park goes over and beyond to provide this for their guests. Whether its the huge fireplace that is always lit in the main lobby, the plush seats and alpine-lodge feel throughout the hotel or the warm chocolate chip cookies served in the evenings, I practically melt with happiness every time I stay here.
2) The gourmet factor. The hotel recently opened up the Menlo Grill Bistro & Bar and you will be so glad that they did. The food is top-notch; definitely one of the best meals you will have in the area. You can't go wrong with breakfast, lunch, or dinner here and a huge plus about staying here is that the restaurant provides an "All Day Menu" for room service! I highly recommend the the 3-cheese grilled sandwich with a side of tomato soup to dunk. The Caesar Salad is a standout as well.
3) The fitness factor. The pool and jacuzzi are a delight especially because they are outside in a beautiful courtyard. However, a pleasant surprise is there state-of-the-art fitness room. This is no ordinary hotel fitness room. From top-of-the-line equipment to a beautiful spacious feel - there is no excuse not to get in a workout during your stay here.
4) The accommodating factor. The staff aims to please. They are friendly, courteous and are there for anything that you may need. I also love the business center. Printouts and internet are complementary!

Room Tip: Choose a room that faces the courtyard/pool area.
