“Sweet and warm old time charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2015

Stayed 2 nights over Passover/Easter weekend while visiting my brother in Menlo Park. The lower rooms have two full sized beds and upstairs have king beds. Lower level rooms have an outdoor deck with a little table and two chairs. Very charming. There is a fireplace and chairs for all to share outside as well as a pool. The hotel is located enough off of El Camino that you can't hear the traffic. The morning breakfast is in the office and is a small space. This is a quaint hotel and lovely.

An above average choice for business travelers in Menlo. Don't be fooled (as I initially was) by the old fashioned appearance of this circa-1960s looking motel. This book should not be judged by its cover! The rooms are small but loaded with amenities and clean as a whistle. Updated mini-kitchen with refrigerator and coffee maker, and tile bath stocked with more than the usual necessities. The complimentary breakfast was quite good, and even included more than starch and carbs (boiled eggs--nice touch) and fresh fruit. Pool in the courtyard is beautiful and a serene getaway between business meetings.

I love staying at this hotel. Clean, comfortable rooms, free breakfast, parking and wi-fi and management that appreciates your business. The Red Cottage Inn is an Oasis in the midst of an area in which the other hotels Hotels are all so expensive and tend to nickel and dime you for everything.
The only things I don't like are the very small showers and the outdated gym. Regardless, if they have rooms available, this is where I stay every time.

Room Tip: The most quiet rooms will be upstairs towards the back

For a meeting at Menlo College, I reserved a room at the Red Cottage Inn and found the facilities very clean and very quaint. My room even had a little garden. Since the Inn is a little off El Camino Real, it did not have the usual street noise of other hotels and motels in the area. I will certainly stay there again!

I don't think this hotel (motel?) aspires to be or to offer anything special and that's fair enough. The room was perfectly OK without being remarkable in any way, the reception fairly efficient though rather distant and unwelcoming, the location convenient for much that is in the neighborhood, and it was easy to find. The breakfast, however, was minimalist and uninviting. It's a bed for the night, not an experience.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We take pride in our customer service and value of our property so an adequate description is very disheartening for us. Rest assured that we are continually trying to raise our standards and for the third quarter this year we are scheduled to do a major renovation for the whole look of the hotel. We will also be offering gourmet breakfast selections, making room for a bigger breakfast area and hotel lobby and upgrading our amenities. We hope to see you soon and we look forward to improving your experience every time you visit.

As a general rule the reasonably priced hotels along El Camino in the Palo Alto area are modest at best and the worst ones are real dumps. This is one of the better choices. It it only a mile and half from Stanford. The rooms are clean, modern, secure, and quiet though you can occasionally hear the commuter train a long block away. The hotel is set off from the road so little road noise is present. Free Wifi, fridge, and microwave. The breakfast offered is modest with no hot items but the fruit, rolls, and cereal are all fresh as are the boiled eggs and cereal. Coffee in the rooms had Newman's Own K-cups. My room had a patio with deck chairs and table overlooking the nice pool though it was too cool to utilize. The staff were friendly and competent. I will be here again.

Room Tip: Ask for poolside or overlooking the pool if the weather is nice.

For $233.02 for a Monday night, this place was way overpriced. It is a mid-20th century motel and not at all close to Stanford University as pictured on their website. Beware and find other places that are closer to all the dining and shopping activitity in the area.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize that you felt that our rates are overpriced but the current market and overhead costs of doing business in Menlo Park area has increased over the years. We find that our rates together with the complimentary services we offer like parking, breakfast and WIFI are still significantly lower than our competitors. We are also 1.8 miles away from Stanford Hospital and downtown Menlo Park, where dining and shopping activities are, is 4 blocks (around 15 minutes walk) away. We are also nearby Celia's Restaurant which is a short walk from the hotel.

Again, we appreciate that you take the time to give us your feedback. We hope you give us another opportunity to welcome you back at the Red Cottage Inn and Suites.
