This hotel is small and quaint with excellent service. The rooms/beds are very comfortable. The staff is great. They have a great van service that transports guest to the campus or cal-trans for free. Wonderful inexpensive place to stay.

Stayed for 4 nights while attending recent Stanford Homecoming. It was a good price for the Palo Alto / Menlo Park area, and the rooms were clean, staff were friendly. I believe guests need to have a Stanford affiliation / reason to stay at the Guest House, e.g., attending conferences, or families checking out the campus for their kids college applications.

What I liked about Stanford Guest House:

1) Convenient location - Although it's not near the main campus or any major facilities, the Stanford Guest House is served by 2 different shuttles: (a) The Stanford University Marguerite shuttle (the SLAC loop line) which runs on weekdays, and takes about 15 mins to get to Hoover Tower, and (b) the Guest House's own shuttle, which you can reserve to take you to / from different parts of the University campus and which runs only on the hour.

2) Clean rooms

3) Strong wifi - I stayed in room 123 and had no problems with the wifi at all, which runs on the Stanford Guest network, which covers most of the Stanford Campus too.

4) Secure. Because it shares the same entrance as SLAC, there is 24-hour security that checks who comes in and out.

5) Self-serve laundry available (2 washers, 2 dryers). $1.50 per wash, $1.25 per drying cycle as at Oct 2013.

6) "Peet's Coffee" self-serve machine available 24-hours for free. I don't drink coffee, but my son loved the hot-chocolate available from the machine.

7) Decent continental breakfast included with the room.

8) Plentiful parking at the Guest House and around SLAC.

What I would have preferred:

a) Bigger rooms. Our queen room was kind of small, with just enough space beside the bed to lay out our suit case, and not much else.

b) Apple juice that didn't taste so watered down at the breakfasts.

c) Larger refrigerators. The Guest House has 2 shared mini-fridges in the common pantry, where guests could label and store their items. They were always full.

d) More flexible timing for the Guest House shuttle. Instead of only running on the hour, if there were no other bookings, they should consider running the shuttle at the convenience of the guests.

I would stay there again when I return to visit Stanford.

I stayed in this hotel for two-weeks and was happy with the facilities and services provided. The price is high (I paid 115 dollars per night) but is similar to what is charged by other hotels in the area.

The room is small but clean and with wi-fi, tv and hairdryer. There is a small gym with cardio machines and a laundry room with two vending machines on the first floor. Breakfast is very good and there is free coffee and tea available at any time. There is also a small kitchen with microwave and fridge which is useful for guests who stay for longer periods of time.

Although there are some exceptions, the majority of the staff are nice and helpful.

The guest house is not located in the main Stanford campus and is a few kilometres from the city centre. During the week there is a free shuttle bus that stops in front of the guest house and goes to the main campus, but I would recommend hiring a car if possible. During the evenings and weekends it is harder to find transportation. There is a safeway withing walking distance (10/15 min) but the path to get there is very dark after sunset.

Stayed here while attending a conference. There are regular buses (free) between the Guest House & the Stanford campus which is several miles away. There is also a shuttle just for those staying at the Guest House, reserve a spot the day before if you are trying to get to campus between 7:30 am - 9:00 am as those are the busiest times. As others have said, the rooms are small but very clean and have all the basics including ironing boards & irons, plenty of outlets for plugging in all your devices, iPod dock in the alarm clock, satellite television. Bed was very comfortable, room quiet. Complimentary breakfast of bagels, pastries, fruits, cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, good coffee & juices. Again, this can be very busy between 7:00 - 8:00am so just be aware & plan accordingly. Plenty of space to sit, including a nice outdoor courtyard. Laundry, ice machine, and vending on the 3rd floor. Free parking, while you can walk to a nearby small shopping center, if you want to eat out, etc a car is a good thing to have. Bonus: incredibly helpful and professional staff.

This isn't a luxury hotel, but it's secure (24-hour security checking your license against the guest list before driving through the gate), it's clean, and it's the most reasonably priced place in the area. The breakfast is better than your average hotel, and it's included in the rate. Water, teas, coffee...all are available 24/7. Don't mistake this for the Stanford Inn (which is a complete pit). I won't stay anywhere but the Stanford Guest House when I have medical appointments at Stanford. The staff are always friendly, and it's beginning to feel a bit like home to me. It's a great place for those with prolonged stays, as it even has an in-house laundry facility.

The guest house is not big and not necessarily hotel like. But it provides a good place to stay for those who have connections with Stanford University. The room is small but generally clean. The guest house staff are helpful and they also act as the shuttle driver to bring guest to various places on campus. The breakfast is served as the SLAC dinner room up hill. The quality of the breakfast is good and guests also have opportunities to meet with faculty members and researchers.

For a person staying on campus, this is a fine choice. It is close to campus facilities. The rooms are small but adequately appointed -- suitable for either one person or two people who know each other exceptionally well.

However, the room was not clean -- I scrubbed the bathroom floor because it was sticky and covered in another person's hair. It was clear that the bathroom had not been cleaned after the last person checked out. There was also a lot of noise from adjoining rooms and the floor above. Some of the front desk staff was friendly; others were surly.

As a courtesy, the Guest House offers a shuttle to locations on campus. The shuttle forgot to pick me up one afternoon. The SLAC public shuttle is a much more reliable option.

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor.
