“Perfect Brunch Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We went to Madera for a family Sunday brunch and had a very nice experience. We were seated outside on the terrace overlooking the valley and had gas heaters keeping us cosy. The food was very good, nice portions and well prepared. Definitly recommended for a family outing.

“High expectations, but a pleasant meal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Madera comes highly recommended in the Palo Alto area and seems to attract quite the crowd. We arrived mid week and with a reservation were promptly shown to our table.

We ate from a prix fixe menu which was quite limited, but I figured it should showcase some of the restaurant's specials. The starter salad was pretty basic and forgettable. I had a NY strip steak (sirloin) which was tasty enough but slightly overcooked (ordered rare but presented closer to medium than even medium rare). It was a healthy portion though and accompanying dishes were very good.

The crumble-based dessert was stodgy and lacking in imagination.

Wine was pretty good, although the service for wine and indeed the whole meal was pretty average and on several occasions I had to work hard to get the waiter's attention, including a dirty fork.

Overall, I would try it again but not with great sense of urgency. Maybe it was bad night for them...

“Fantastic presentation, good food, but pricey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

The presentation of food is superb at this place. They have done a great job in accomplishing that. The food is delicious as well.

The chairs and tables can use a little update because they show a bit aged. This place is a bit pricey compared to other places that also serve great food.

“Good food and presentation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

We had a lovely lunch at Madera this summer. The appetizers were sumptuous and the entrees, at least two out of four, are very good. There is not much of a view from a window seat, you look out on the deck and beyond the tables to highway 280. Service was a little too attentive, granted we stayed for a long time but there is no need to interrupt us in mid-conversation several times to ask if there is anything we need. You can see photos and comments about some of the dishes at my website: http://foodsparks.blogspot.ca/p/california.html Scroll down to the post called: Saving Grace, its about the food at Madera.

“Delicious Food, Good Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

The ambiance is one of quiet elegance. The staff is very friendly and the food is very tasty. The kitchen is on full view so it's kind of fun to see them bustling about.
