Elegant, comfortable, nurturing, fun, and totally relaxing, we stayed in two separate cottages, as the first one (with a terriffic hot tub and sauna) was rented the second night of our stay. We were upgraded (at no extra cost) to a lovely cottage behind the main house with an amazing feather bed! My wife doesn't want me to rave too much, so that it won't be rented the next time we want to go to the Land of the Mendocinians for a time in Utopia. Thanks, Richard, Susan, and the staff, for making our stay with you an unforgettable time. So many little details, like a nice bottle of a white and a red wine in the room waiting for us. A t nine the next morning we had a gourmand's delightful breakfast of juice, and a fresh fruit parfait, paired with a delicious cheese souffle'. Good coffee, fresh cookies 24/7 and only a short stroll to the ocean or the center of town. wonderful!

I recently went on a "girl's trip" to Mendocino, CA, where we stayed at the Whitegate Inn. We had booked their auxillary spot, which was very nice as well. We also booked massages and horseback riding, both of which were enjoyable. Mendocino is a magnificent spot to visit-very picturesque and actually very economical. The trip from San Francisco is about 3 1/2 hours on winding roads, but it takes you through the wine country, which is beautiful. The only thing that we were not clear on, was that we were not included in the breakfasts at the actual inn, other than that, no complaints whatsoever.

Ordinarily when I'm on the road I hurry on without sticking around for the breakfast at the leisurely time of 9. This time I had the chance to do a couple of hours work before breakfast and found poached pears to die for, a wonderful hot coffee cake, and the main egg course was not too cheesy or dry. I learned my lesson.

The feather beds and linens they have are sooo comfortable. Breakfast ,though a bit early (9am) when you are on vacation, is worth getting up for: homemade breads, fresh fruit and a souffle. What a treat. I would recommend this Inn to my friends and family for their stay in Mendo. The Inn is also walking distance to everything.
