I have now stayed at the Joshua Grindle Inn in Mendocino about 5 times. This is after having stayed at 2 other highly recommended bed and breakfasts in the village. What keeps me coming back to the Joshua Grindle Inn is the consistently high standard of service and the very friendly and welcoming interactions with the owners, Cindy and Charles. The rooms I have stayed in have been comfortably appointed, with everything I could want on a multiple day visit away from home. The bathrooms are very modern and in outstanding condition. Upon arrival, I am greeted with delicious cookies and a small bottle of wine.

Charles and Cindy provide a delicoius breakfast at a large group table open to their kitchen. The fact that they are able to cook and talk to you at the same time feels very homey; you feel part of their extended family. While they are very friendly, they are never intrusive. If you have a special request, they will try their best to accomodate you.

We really like the place for a 2 to 3 nights stay. Been there before, and the quality stays the same.
We book rooms on the outside (eg Cypress) so we don't know about the rooms inside the main house.
The rooms are very "cute" and romantic, country style with a nice touch (love the teddys sitting on the bed). The owners are really friendly, personal, helpful and will provide you with all the information you might need. They have been running the b&b for years now.

So.. here's the ups:
- very quiet
- very personal
- kind of romantic
- wonderful breakfast, and you always get to sit down and chat with everyone else who's staying
- the "extras" are a nice touch, the wine, coffee, DVDs etc
- location, walking distance into town

on the downside,
- at a normal rate I'm finding the rooms pricy
- there's only one really comfortable seat (take turns..)
- the bathroom heating is really loud (winter!) so we preferred a cold bathroom :-(

Thanks for alerting us to the noisy bathroom heater.
A cleaning and re-installation was all that was needed to correct the rattle. Mornings in Mendocino can be COLD! The toe kick heaters are great for removing the chill from the bathroom tiles.

The Joshua Grindle Inn has always been our favorite Bed and Breakfast Inn in every way. It's a beautiful place in a beautiful area of California. The Inn is immaculate and the inn-keeper and owners are wonderful. The breakfast is supurb, and we look forward to each morning with anticipation. There is always interesting conversation at the breakfast table, and the inn-keepers are always ready to assist with plans for the day with directions and places of interest. They will also make dinner reservations when requested. There are many great restaurants in the area, and the inn is located in a very convenient spot, within easy walking distance of the town of Mendocino.
We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at our last visit and we were greeted with Champayne and cookies and candy in our room, Charles and Cindy are so thoughtful and think of everything to make a guest feel welcome. Lindsey, the inn-keeper is a wonderful person as well, and also makes a great waffle!!
We have stayed in most of the rooms over the years we have been going to the Inn, and they are all special. The furnishings are comfortable and there are many antiques.
We hope to spend many more vacations at the Joshua Grindle Inn, it's a place you want to go to over and over again.
Mendocino is such a peaceful and beautiful area and the Inn is so inviting, you won't be disappointed.

The Inn Keepers Charles and Cindy definetely know how to pamper their guests. They make your stay very pleasurable and the rooms are beautiful yet relaxing. I can't say enough positive things about the breakfasts.. I went online after we got home to find every recipe they made. Absolutely delicious! I can't imagine staying anywhere else but here.

My spouse and I have stayed at the Joshua Grindle eight or nine times and always keep an upcoming visit on our calendar for something to look forward to. Cindy and Charles, the innkeepers run an incredible inn...the hospitality is friendly and helpful, the food is phenomenal and the inn is warm, comfortable and inviting. All the extra touches are so appreciated....sherry, hot tea, and sweet homemade treats every afternoon, the fireplace burning in the sitting room, booking dinner reservations for guests, the incredible garden with every plant and flower imaginable, and the helpful suggestions and info about the area offered by Cindy and Charles make the inn a must stay if you're going anywhere near Mendocino.

There's no place in the world I'd rather be than at home but the Joshua Grindle Inn comes close....very very close.
