“Honeymoon bliss!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at the Seagull. From the comfy beds and lightly lavender scented sheets to the inn's beautiful gardens and scenery of the nearby town and bay, we loved this quaint historic inn with friendly and accommodating innkeepers. We stayed in Lookout 1, from which we could see trees, flowers, people arriving for the music festival, and waves crashing on the far-off cliffs. We also enjoyed the two big white rocking chairs on the porch. The breakfast was so delicious and served to our room, warm sundried tomato and artichoke heart quiche, with fresh local organic fruit, yogurt, pot of coffee, tea, and orange juice. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and charming honeymoon stay!

It was my first time going to Mendocino and I was traveling by myself, so I wanted a comfortable place that embodied the essence of Mendocino. The Sea Gull Inn B&B was all that and more. The location couldn't be better with easy access to walks along the bluffs and the staircase to the beach. I was very happy with my Lookout #1 Room and had an amazing night's sleep and enjoyed my breakfast brought to my room on the chairs on my porch. Around the corner are places to eat, get coffee, quiet town overall to take walks and soak in the foggy coastal quiet town vibe. As I was checking out and leaving, the owner gave me excellent recommendations on what to do further up the coast at my next stop (multi-day road trip).

This is a perfectly lovely B and B. We were welcomed by the owner (and cat) and given their quiet room (Driftwood). The room was lovely except that we noticed a loud exhaust fan right outside the window. Quiet indeed. Apparently, the noise from this fan has been an issue between the B&B owner and the owner of the restuarant next door for some time. The fan operates between about 8 am and 11 pm every day. You can hear it for for several blocks.

I found this impossible to deal with given that we were promised a quiet room. We had to find a room at another B&B. We were graciously refunded all but $20 of our deposit. Had we been in a truely quiet room away from the fan, I'm sure we would have had a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Unless the fan has been fixed, quieted, or you can habituate to such noises, stay away from teh Drif...

We are glad to see that MS from PA felt we have a perfectly lovely facility, though we regret our neighbor’s fan was unacceptably loud for her and her party. If she comes our way again, we will do our best to ensure solitude. When MS booked, there were only two rooms available, a ground floor room with a room above it, or the Driftwood room on the second floor. Based on the descriptions, she chose the Driftwood room. It is very unfortunate that the exhaust fan for the neighboring restaurant, approximately 30 feet away, was significantly louder than usual for about a 3-4 day period. We have now determined that the ‘loud tumbler dryer’ referred to by MeikT was in fact the restaurant fan one day prior to MS’s reservation. As I noted, this was a time period when the fan was louder than usual. It is no longer so loud. The night MS left, we did have a drop-in guest who stayed in this room and loved it. Reviewer Ryan_San Jose also stayed in this room a couple days after MS’s reservation and thoroughly loved it, and the room has been reserved almost continuously since with no complaints. The fan is not gone, but it is significantly quieter than when MS visited. We are working with this neighbor to ensure the peace and quiet of the neighborhood.

The pics online don't really do this place justice!

There were enough reviews from other websites that I took a chance. It's hidden by a beautiful garden, but once you see the rooms they are great.

Breakfast was brought to the door and beautifully presented while tasting fresh at the same time! We would go back in a heart beat. We met about 5 workers and they were all super nice. It's about 1 minute walk to the ocean. 30 second walk downtown. It was clean and everything was well kept, along with beautiful flowers and gardens all around the outside of the house.

We stayed there two days on the weekend and have zero complaints. Quite surprised by the new discovery. Don't believe me? Some of the wineries in Anderson Valley also told me they thought it was a great place.

I think this place is good for romantic getaways or family. Very relaxing there.

Room Tip: We peaked at all the rooms and they all seemed to be good, the descriptions online at the website se...

The inn was in a great location. The breakfast delivery was new to me but I really enjoyed it. The innkeepers really know how to create an atmosphere for relaxation. Had a good time in Mendocino. Would recommend this B&B to friends. This a good place to stay if you are attending the Mendocino Music Festival. It's less than 1/4 mile from the MMF venue.

Loved the Sea Gull Inn and Mendocino. Lady on reception was a bit stern on arrival. Warned us about the cost implication ($20) of losing room keys, advised that no tv (thanks to a legal wrangle) and helpfully told us to turn our car kerb side or we would get a ticket. Sign in bathroom about keeping the towels 'white and fluffy' which puts you off using them! Room very small but very pretty. Wakened by noisy tumble dryer. Breakfast of fruit and a muffin is served on a tray to the room at 9.30 sharp which would be great in warmer weather as you can sit outside but otherwise if cold and dull weather as we had, you need to eat off the bed as no bedside tables. Would definitely go back and hope for some sun

We are very happy that MeikT loved their stay at The Sea Gull, and hope to see them again on their next trip to our area. When guests check in at the front desk, they sign a statement that says they understand there is there is no smoking in the room, check-out is at 11 am, and that there is a charge for lost keys. This is common at Inns, but we do like staff to summarize the content. We do have a small sign cutely framed in each bathroom that asks guests to help us keep our white fluffy towels bath towels White and Fluffy, and lets them know where they can find old towels to use for their suitcases and shoes, etc. It is truly amazing how many of our white fluffy bath towels were used to clean shoes, suitcases, bicycles, motorcycles, etc. before we posted these little signs. Based on this guests other comments, we sincerely apologize for the stern reception and wish them to know that we have taken action to improve the reception certain staff presents to our valued guests. Stern is NOT what we aspire to, but rather a happy warm welcome for our guests, including a complete description of items available for use in the room, such as the folding table. With regard to a noisy tumble dryer waking them, this room does connect to the laundry room, but the dryers don’t start until 11am as housekeeping staff does not arrive until 10. Perhaps there was something going on at the adjacent restaurant we are unaware of. We thank MeikT for their comments and will use them as we continue to improve the guest experience.

We enjoyed our single night at the Sea Gull.
It was nicely done and we liked our location, most especially proximity to the ocean and to all the restaurants. Nice to just walk around and nice to walk to a restaurant.

Breakfast was on the porch with 2 rockers outside our room- that was a nice feature.
The room is somewhat small, but suited our needs just fine.
