Ok. I admit... I was turned off just a tiny bit as we drove up to see some very "Disneyland Mainstreet" sorts of repro housing... but the price was good and they take dogs. It ended up being a little gem and we intend to return.
Wonderful getaway for us -- and for our little dog. They explained the rules on check in. (No dogs left in the rooms or in your car... fair enough.) Lots of grounds to take nice walks (with or without the little dog.) They left some doggie treats in the room. (only 2 rooms take pets... "Gen Merch" (1 bed & fireplace- ocean view from the comfy chairs) or "Land Office" (2 beds, no fireplace but you can see the ocean from the beds.)
We felt very welcome and our every request was met with a smile. (more wood... check-out time...) They left a rose and a small bottle of local wine in the room. Very clean. Good heater for night. Clean windows that open for day. spacious room. Quiet, quiet, quiet.
One thing we appreciated was the way they used good local products (such as the shade-grown locally roasted coffee) in the room. The continental breakfast situation is different from any we've encountered, with the basket in the room when you arrive (homemade cookies, breakfast breads, various fruit) but it's just different-- not bad. One little bit of protein would have made it perfect. (cheese??)
It is across the highway from the town of Mendocino, but just a 3 minute drive to get there. It's a sliver of a distant view of the ocean, but still just gorgeous... especially at sunset.
We loved the Blackberry Inn and will return.
