“THE ABSOLUTE BEST FOR TWENTY YEARS!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

We have enjoyed multiple-night stays at The Headlands Inn Bed & Breakfast for the past twenty years, and because of the care and attention to quality and customer service of the present owners, Mitch and Denise, the inn has actually improved each year that they have owned and managed it. The breakfasts are as gourmet a treat as any food in a fine restaurant, and at the same time, as hearty as a meal in our own home. The rooms are beautiful and impeccably clean, and each year, it is as if we have never been away. The Headlands Inn is the only lodging facility that makes us feel as if we have finally come back home. Thank you Mitch and Denise, and hugs to Rosie, the adorable resident Inn cat!

Mendocino is not Carmel, I would consider Mendo less developed and a bit more hit and possible miss. That's why you need to try the Headlands, it is a true gem. It is priced right for this pricey little town, it has the awesome location, food and service. The place is clean and well appointed for its genre.

We both love good full breakfasts, the breakfast here is an absolute splurge and their recipes are really wholesome and unique (it is calorie splurge people). We stayed in the bottom floor room and thought it might be noisy it is not. You do lose some privacy, but that's for you to figure out, the biggest rooms by far are the two on the middle floor, those are the luxury rooms and they are very spacious. They empty out onto the shared parlor room. Breakfast in your room is nice because everyone has a great seating area.

Whatever room you take, they will make it memorable.

My wife and I spent one night here on our way down the coast of California. The beds were really comfortable and we had a patio off our bedroom on the 2nd floor. There are fireplaces in each room and the B&B is nicely located in Mendocino. The owners and staff are very nice as well.

We had booked a small room for our stay and when we arrived were offered an upgrade to a cottage which we accepted, even though this nearly doubled the price. The original room was very attractive but in the house itself; the cottage was also charming and detached from the house. We found our stay both peaceful and pleasant. Breakfast was delivered to our room, and ,although beautifully presented, was overly sweet ( sugared pancakes etc) and not our breakfast food of choice. Mendocino is tranquil and a gentle reminder of times gone by. People are friendly and the scenic coastal walks abundant. If you have the opportunity to visit this gem of a town, take it!

We'd like to thank our guest for writing a review on Tripadvisor! We're happy that you enjoyed your stay in the Casper Cottage, which is a charming and peaceful retreat. It sounds like you had our ever popular Stuffed French Toast, served with a fresh fruit and a side of sausage (vegie sausage available upon request). Each day's menu is unique and different, and we hope you'll return to enjoy one of our sumptuously delicious egg dishes! Warm regards from the Staff at Headlands Inn.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Headlands Inn for the last 3 nights of our honeymoon. This place is great! Denise and Mitch and the rest of the staff were warm and friendly. We added the wine tour package to our room and had a blast! Denise suggested to the driver that we visit the winery Esterlina and we were so glad she did. It has an amazing view, so we had lunch up there and got to meet the owner of the winery and taste some great wines.

Unfortunately we both came down with a cold (I guess from all the stress of the wedding planning or from one of our guests), but they were always willing to give us some extra tea or hot water. They made us feel like we were at home. And the breakfasts were large and delicious! They were very accommodating to my request for a vegetarian breakfast.

The location of this B&B is good, too. It’s in downtown Mendocino, within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and shops, and right on the same street as the Friday farmers market. There is also a great view of the ocean as soon as you walk out. Thank you Denise and Mitch for helping to make our honeymoon perfect!

My husband and I stayed for two nights in the Bessie Strauss room for our tenth anniversary. The room was the highlight of the trip! Our window overlooked the inn's garden and the ocean...absolutely amazing! There are no words to describe the breakfast. It was delicious, unique and filling. I'm forever spoiled and I don't think any other inn can come close to the level of cooking and presentation.
The inn's location to Main Street is ideal. No need to drive around town.
Kudos to Denise and Mitch for a memorable experience from start to finish.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Headlands. The rooms were very clean and very comfortable. We stayed two nights in the Headlands Hideaway and two nights in the Barry Room. Although the Hideaway doesn't include breakfast, it worked out for us as we used those days to go out for an early hike and outing to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens. Mitch and Denise are wonderful hosts. Their hospitality and breakfasts were excellent. We hope to be back before too long!
