“Nice service in tiny town at base of Mount Shasta”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

We stayed in the "Switchboard Room" on the 2nd floor of this quaint B&B in McCloud.

McCloud is a small town at the base of Mount Shasta, but is about 9 miles from the town of Mount Shasta.

The Inn was clean, quiet, and right in the town. The hosts were willing to spend time telling about things we could do. The breakfast was tasty, and we enjoyed chatting with the other guests. The hosts offered us the chance of getting breakfast in our room, but we opted for being amongst the other guests. Always fun to find out about other people, and learn from their experiences.

There are not many things to do in McCloud, which may or may not be right for you. There was just one restaurant open at night when we went (mid-Summer).

This was our third or fourth stay at the McCloud River Inn, and we just love the place. Ursula, the owner, is very friendly and serves a hearty and delicious breakfast. The place is very clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the furnishings tastefully honor the building's long history. We also love McCloud itself, which is a much quieter, more laid-back alternative to the town of Mt. Shasta.

We arrived about an hour before the normal check in time but the inn keepers accomodated us right away and provided some great chocolate chip cookies. We stayed in the two room suite and found it be spacious and nicely decorated. We had a delicious breakfast of apple pancakes and fruit the next morning and enjoyed the company of the other guests. We have also stayed at another B&B in town a few years ago but would come back here for our next stay.

We arrived at 3:30pm and were surprised to find no-one in attendance ; however, the innkeeper was soon on hand after we phoned. The room, up a long flight of stairs, was very nice and comfortable, but we could not get the internet connection to work, which, apparently, happens with some rooms. The bathroom fan did not work.
The breakfast was definitely one of the best we have had in a B&B.
The innkeeper was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

One of the nicer bed and breakfasts we have stayed at. The rooms are separated and quiet -- it's a large house. The cookies at night are great. The rooms are extremely comfortable. Downsides: McCloud is not the center of the universe -- you'll likely end up in Shasta for dinner. You aren't on a river. But we'd certainly stay again there.

Best stay on our whole roadtrip. The inn and the setting are both stunning. Very upscale and classy, but still very comfortable, and they were happy to accommodate our (well-behaved) kids. I can’t say if it’s better or worse than any other in the area, but we’ll probably never find out because next time we get back to McCloud we’ll stay there again. The furnishings and finishes were top notch quality. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful for a growing family. And Ursula…she is the most gracious, accommodating, and pleasant host you’ll ever find. Felt like we were visiting close friends. We’re truly looking forward to our next stay.
