“Lovely old hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the McCloud Hotel. We stopped for one-night on our way to Oregon and Crater Lake. It is a pretty well restored Arts & Crafts period hotel. I really appreciated that the owners are using decor elements (lights, artwork, etc.) that are consistent with the style. Part of the week they serve dinner on the patio, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Also, had great breakfast!

After a hard day's sightseeing in Lassen Volcanic National Park, we were looking forward to a restful couple of days in McCloud. The hotel is definitely the best thing about McCloud, a former company sawmill town which in the early 20th century practised its own 'apartheid' system by having housing zones for Italians, Native Americans, blacks and other groups. Those distinctions have since unravelled.according to a book on the history of McCloud in the spacious and well appointed lounge. As well as books, there are also board games available.

The room was really nice although it didn't have a TV - there is a TV room if you need to unwind on the night. The breakfast was superb - granola plus fruit and blueberry muffins to start followed by a good range of cooked breakfasts with fruit juice and coffee/tea always available. And if all the blueberry muffins or other cakes aren't eaten at breakfast then you can help yourself to one later in the day.

On the Tuesday we were there the restaurant wasn't open, and nor was anything else in McCloud, so we ended up eating in Mount Shasta, several miles away. On the Wednesday we eat on the way back from Redding so we never got the chance to see if Nancy and Robert could surpass their breakfast culinary skills.

Room Tip: If staying during the summer months, park on the tree-lined side of the street to avoid your car bei...

The only reason we picked this as an overnight way-station was that McCloud was the halfway point between Santa Cruz, where we had stayed the night before, and Portland, Oregon. What a delightful, utterly restful, charming and, above all peaceful time! We picked room 211 and it was exactly what we needed. The small old mining town in the shadow of Mt. Shasta was a slice of a wonderfully slower-paced past life. Our innkeepers Nancy and Robert couldn't have ben more considerate and helpful. Ditto the other reviewers on the breakfast and Nancy's scones.

Room Tip: Loved room 211, with its own balcony and access to the upstairs lounge.

This hotel is old fashioned but in a good way! It is colonial in style with. Large entrance hall and large winding staircase. A glass of wine and savoury snack was offered to us around 5pm which was very welcome. Breakfast is to die for!! Home made granola and blueberry muffins followed by your choice of hot food. We chose poached egg on a sausage Pattie with hash brown. It was superb! The owners are very friendly and attentive. Our bed was very comfortable with lovely bedding. I totally recommend this hotel.

This B&B has an unequalled breakfast. You gotta try it, especially Nancy's scones. Very friendly and hospitable. Nice dinners, but with reservations. Have a glass of wine and hang out in the comfortable lobby before dinner.

We have been coming to this property twice a year since it opened in 1995. Charming, relaxing, historic, adjectives fail to describe the unique qualities of this lovingly restored 1915 mill house. Now under new ownership, the hospitality has been passed on and we will continue to frequent this wonderful destination. A step back in time, we come up here to fly fish - once in the spring and again in the fall. The queen rooms at $125 are a good deal and spacious - the breakfasts well made and filling, and dinner is served during the busy weekends (though not served during our recent stay). We hope that Robert and Nancy continue the fine tradition of this unique hotel - we have stayed at many places around the world, and this continues to rank as one of our favorites.

Room Tip: The second floor is quieter - floor joists are squeaky if you are under an occupied room.

This older hotel is in remarkable shape and the grounds are so beautiful. great front porch to relax. the lobby was also very nice with many seating choices. our room was on the 2nd floor and was very spacious.
We had anticipated having dinner but since we arrived on a Wednesday, NO DINNER was available....they ONLY serve dinner from Thursday - Sunday.....TOO BAD they did not tell us when we made reservations. we had to drive 10 miles back to I-5 for dinner. Bummer.
the breakfast was at 8am. plenty of coffee and tea beforehand. you can have you eggs prepared the way you like, everything was good. the owner/hostess/server seemed like she had done this one to many times..maybe a vacation would help her.
overall a nice place to stay in McCloud and the only thing to stay/do.
