“Fabulous Find & Exceptional Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2008

Ten of us, including four small children, stayed two nights in the McCloud Mercantile Hotel. We were greeted warmly by Lonnie and Joan who graciously gave us a tour of the rooms and made us feel like family. Lonnie even invited us down to the restaurant after hours for lovely conversations. The rooms are drenched with sun, accented by hardwood floors, and rich, tasteful colors and decor. There wasn't a single detail in the rooms we didn't want to take back home: the tile, the shades, the fabrics, the towels, and the modern sinks. I was more impressed by the design of this place even more than the Cannery Pier in Astoria. The breakfast was the best we had during our three-week vacation, and the views of Mt. Shasta outside of the Charles Miller room and the Shasta Winter room were stunning. Because of the wildfires, it wasn't even safe for our children to go outside, but we stayed a second night simply because we loved this place. It was the perfect setting for our family to relax in a luxurious atmosphere, the kind of place we will visit again.

This hotel is FABULOUS. The rooms are beautifully redone (we checked out several), full of character and charm, tastefully done. We stayed in the railroad room with our family of 4 and were beyond comfortable. From the unique clawfoot tub to the extra comfy beds we were more than happy. I slept like a world champ. The mercantile building combines the inn with a great mercantile with modern goods, a funky cool diner, a great candy shop that also serves lunch and lattes, a bookstore, and a women's clothing store: basically all my favorite things. On top of all this the owners were so helpful and accommodating and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely be coming back.

My wife and I had the pleasure of spending our 2nd wedding anniversary at the Mercantile Hotel. It was one of the nicest experiences we've had in a long time. The innkeepers were friendly, warm, and an absolutely wonderful family to chat with. Both mornings started off with great full breakfasts in the adjoining restaurant served by very friendly staff.

Our room (The Founders Suite) was beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, and refreshingly quiet. The fresh flowers, wonderful claw foot tub, and kind personal touches from the innkeepers made for a very welcomed stay. Visiting from the fast-paced Silicon Valley, it was truly a revitalizing experience to unwind by the window overlooking the railroad tracks at dusk while listening to nothing but the whisper of the wind and ponder life.

We can't comment positively enough on how great of a time we had at this wonderful establishment. We really appreciated how everyone went out of their way to ensure that we had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. This is undoubtedly the place that we'll be coming back to the next time we visit the McCloud/Shasta area.
