“Perfect little escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

The innkeepers are delightful, attentive and put together without being "in your face". The suite was perfect for me on my own, would have also been lovely to share with my husband. Incredibly peaceful. No TV, almost no cell phone reception (both good things!), but everything you need to relax. The in-room fireplace, quirky decorations, and view of Tomales Bay were nice touches. Very reasonably priced for the area as well, and just a few short minute's drive from Nick's Cove, which is a great place for dinner.

My partner and I just stayed at this inn for the third time. We consider it a real find: beautiful view of the Bay from the bedroom bay window, quiet, set adjacent to amazing mammoth trees. Very peaceful surroundings. Love the "fireplace" touch, which is a small gas fireplace connected to the thermostat. Lovely. Very clean, minimal, but all you need. No TV, which is a real plus for us.

A short walk takes you down to the bay for heron-sightings. Good restaurants are less than a ten-minute drive away (try the fresh crab at Tony's Restaurant), 15 minutes to Point Reyes Station and groceries, restaurants, etc., and about 20 minutes to Bear Valley Trailhead. Go a little further to the Point Reyes National Seashore and Elk Reserve (yes, we saw Elk!).

This inn is a great place to enjoy Nature and peaceful surroundings. We found Bob and Lynnette to be excellent hosts, and they graciously accommodated my food allergy with their Gluten-Free breakfast option.

Two thumbs up!

Room Tip: Ask for the South or North rooms; best views!

The Inn on Tomales Bay is a small bed and breakfast of three rooms adjacent to Highway One in Marshall. The price is reasonable for the location and amenities at $150 night plus 10% tax and the facility is very clean. This is not a hotel, so if you seek service and luxury, this wouldn’t be a good fit.

Two rooms are part of a duplex set-up over the garage of the owners, who live in the house. We stayed in the North Room reached via a private entrance outdoor staircase with windows on two sides and a big bay window overlooking Tomales Bay. It’s a simple set up with a double bed, two sitting chairs (a rocking chair, upholstered chair), small table, bookcase, and dresser. The bookcase houses a gas heater/fireplace adding warmth and evening ambiance. The bathroom is large and clean. (Floors are linoleum and shower (no tub) is one of those all in one plastic models).

Owners, Bob and Lynette were very helpful with any questions we had yet unobtrusive. A continental breakfast tray with coffee, tea, breads, juice is served in the room between 8-9am. The view from the room is breathtaking. One could sit in the rocking chair, play Scrabble (provided) and sip a glass of wine (bring your own) and be totally content watching the sea birds, jumping fish, tule elk, and sunset. They provide binoculars and a hiking backpack for visitors use. There is NO CELL or internet SERVICE at the Inn, nor in most of Tomales Bay. If you are counting on your cell phone for GPS, email, and connection, don’t! The owners invite you to use their house phone at no charge if needed.

The Inn does not have an outside deck, lounging chairs, etc. It would be such a great addition for them to add this because the location is so beautiful and the sunsets magnificent. If you want to hike, bike, kayak, explore, and then come back to simple, comfortable, quiet accommodations, The Inn on Tomales Bay is your ticket to a good night sleep.

Tips: Bring your own beach gear-towels, chairs, wine, etc.
About 2.8 miles in the town of Marshall, you can rent kayaks, buy oysters, and snacks.

This is the second time we have stayed here. This time for our anniversary.

We like it very much. No TV, no cell service, just peace & quiet & scenery.

The owners are very accommodating.

A great place to relax, read, or have conversation with a friend/partner.

This is not a luxury resort with all the amenities, but the price reflects that.

We arrived on the property to find a note taped to the door of the house directing us to our room. We had trouble finding it, since we hadn't yet grasped that our room was on top of their garage--not what we'd envisioned. While we were looking, Bob, the innkeeper, drove past and barked at us that we were going in the wrong direction. Later we returned to the parking lot to find a woman getting out of her car, looking crossly over at us but not speaking; I assumed she was another guest and finally decided to introduce myself, only to discover she was the other innkeeper, Lynette! She couldn't have been less welcoming. Later we had several questions and requests but didn't feel comfortable contacting the couple, so we just kind of hunkered down in the room above the garage. Very nice view of the bay, but the indifferent--almost mean--reception made this the least inviting B&B ever.

This review is not quite accurate. First, when these guest made their reservation for Monday, April 11th 2011, they never showed up. We are a very small B&B with just three guestrooms, so in the meantime we had to turn away potential guest. The guest phoned the next day never
apologizing for not showing up the night before. She asked if she could reschedule for the following week April 18, 2011. I said "yes, no problem" and they re-booked. In 20 years in this
business we have often left "room directions" notes at the front door - never a complaint.
Because we are small B&B without any employees occasionally we have to run errands etc.
(all rooms are private suites with outside private entrances) We returned from our errands just as they had arrived, both my wife and I commented that they seemed unhappy or angry. So we said hello, showed them the way. They never filled out their breakfast menu, so we assumed they were not breakfast eaters. The next morning they got in their car and left without a word.
Their comment that their guestroom "was on top of the garage" is like saying your room at the
Ritz Carlton in SF is over the underground parking garage.

The Inn on Tomales Bay is a nice place for a romantic, quiet getaway from the world. Yes, it is not the typical "inn" - but my husband and I found it nice to have so much privacy. The room was large with an amazingly beautiful view of Tomales Bay. If you enjoy peace and beauty - this is what you get here. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the small fireplace added a nice touch. Having breakfast in the room was great - and the food was very good as well. Enjoyed the extra touches too- backpack (thanks! that helped for all the hiking!), games and books in the room.

This place is not bad. The good. It is spotless and the bedding is comfortable, breakfast service in your room. The view is nice. The inconvenient. It is far from Point Reyes, so we drove around a lot. . There wasn't really a place to walk or sit outside. The cooking needs improvement. Oh and be warned, there is no cell service.
