After a long, but spectacular day in Yosemite National Park, we were treated to a delicious and memorable meal at Savory's in downtown Mariposa. It's a small place and that is part of its charm. The friendliness of the staff, especially the owner Miriam, is immediately noticeable.
There are only 10 places to sit so be sure to get reservations especially if you are coming on a weekend. Four of them are small booths on the window. You can look out and see the historical buildings lining the street.
As for the food, it was nothing short of excellent. When you are first seated you are given a special bread for dipping to take the edge off the hungry traveler.
I ordered the blackened flat iron steak and it was done to perfection and especially tender and moist. The oven roasted potatoes alongside were reminiscent of the best home cooked potatoes my mother used to make. Along with the meal came the choice of soup or salad. My salad was outstanding with mixed greens, glazed walnuts and feta cheese.
My husband ordered the shrimp with ginger, lime and cilantro in a cream sauce over linguine and he gave it a big thumbs up.
After such a spectacular meal, we had to try the desserts thinking they, too, would be spectacular. And we were right. My Panna Cotta was a heavenly cream custard and my husband's dessert, Irish Cream Parfait, was also first rate.
If you want food that is a cut above the ordinary kind, this is the place to go with atmosphere and good service to boot. And for the price, the whole meal with wine was just over $50. We have paid lots more for that kind of quality food in the bigger cities.
