“Very nice property and hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2007

We stayed at Mary Ellen's Poppy Hill B&B on the weekend of Apr 14-15. We stayed in the Mariposa Lily room which could accomodate up to 3 adults. There's a day bed in the room for the third person.
My mother fell in love with the place as soon as she stepped inside the house. She couldn't stop complimenting Mary Ellen for keeping the house in such good shape. She loved the decorations and how every piece of furniture seemed to be telling a piece of history of the place. Mary Ellen told us the house has been a B&B place for 16 years of the 20 years that they've occupied the house. She even showed us photos of how bad the house was when they purchased the property and how they have transfomed into a beaufitul place is it now today.
We were lucky that we were the only guests in the house that night, so we had the whole living room to ourselves. There were board games and books in the living area for guests to entertain themselves. Mary Ellen even set up nice music and loaned us a dictrionary for us to play Scrabble.
The bed was very comfortable (the day bed as well) and everything was clean. Breakfast was yummy as other posts of mentioned.
Although it seems a bit far from the park, the drive was actually quite flat and only took 30 - 40 minutes from the valley. The Hwy 140 entrance is the closest to the valley and very flat. They have set up temporary bridges due to the land slide that happened last year, but we did not encounted any heavy traffic during our visit.
We would definitely return to the Poppy Hill B&B to visit Mary Ellen again!

My husband and I spent a wonderful and very peaceful weekend at the lovely Poppy Hill Bed and Breakfast. Mary Ellen our host welcomed us into her beautiful home. Other reviews have touted her croissant french toast and we agree it was delicious. Breakfasts included homemade banana nut bread, fresh fruits, ham, coffee, juices and Sunday breakfast was especially yummy with Mimosa's and Mary Ellen's Piquante Egg dish. We stayed in the Poppy room which overlooks the gardens. In the mornings we heard all kinds of birds singing outside our window. It really was lovely. Poppy Hill is fairly close to Yosemite. Mariposa and the surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful spots in California. We highly recommend Poppy Hill and plan on visting there again.

Poppy Hill was a peaceful and cozy place to stay. The grounds were beautifully kept and on more than one occasion we just enjoyed the view from the second-floor deck as we sipped a glass of wine.

Our host, Mary Ellen, was very pleasant and eager-to-please. Breakfast was delicious (the croissant french toast was a particular favorite) fresh fruit, ham, coffee, tea and juice were always served. Mary Ellen was very friendly but unobtrusive. It was like staying with your favorite aunt.

There are four room available. We stayed in the Mariposa room. It was clean, comfortable and had a nice en suite bath.

We'd definitely stay with Mary Ellen again.
