“Wonderful resource!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

This museum is a must-see because it is full of artifacts thoughtfully displayed. Every time I go there I learn more about history, gold mining, and life in the Sierras in the near distant past. Docents are available to guide groups. They even have gold mining where all the children go home with gold!

“Educational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

We took my grandchildren to the Museum so they could learn about the history of Mariposa. They learned about gold panning, the dress, and about the family lifestyle. The museum displays The Miwuks Historical artifacts, and various rooms..like the Sheriffs Office. and the Historical Court house. I really enjoyed the "Letters." This museum takes you back into time...and when you leave you appreciate the quaint town of Mariposa...and realize firsthand how Progress has changed our lives.

“No Photos Allowed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We stayed an extra day to see the museums, but this museum had the ridiculous, unenforceable rule against cameras. Everyone has a phone or tiny camera that will not be detected. What are they afraid of? That we will steal something? We just wanted some photos. Time to get with the times!

“Fun Stop in Mariposa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

We are a couple with a 12yr old son, and we really enjoyed our visit. The self-guided tour is as quick or as slow as you like, and the mining equipment outside is impressive. They have so many artifacts inside, I had to go through it a few times, and i still missed a lot. If you are here, definitely stop in.

“A gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Nicely small, but packed with "user-friendly" exhibits. The authentic "Letters from a pioneer" format really adds zing to the history presented. Also, the docents are wonderfully helpful. The highlight of Mariposa.
