“Cheap accommodation near the National Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in a king room for two nights after the affordable options in the park were all booked out. The accommodation is very good value for money. Clean room, decent bathroom and a comfy bed to come back to after a long days hike.

There is a good variety of places to eat, though none of them are mind blowing. But there is plenty of cheap, decent food around the block.

Be warned though, it is quite a distance to the Park. It takes just over an hour to get to the valley floor. If this doesn't trouble you, then this is a good accommodation option if you can't afford the park.

Couldn't find any decent inexpensive accommodation any nearer to Yosemite in September than Mariposa town - which is about 45 minutes drive from the entrance to Yosemite but chanced upon Mariposa Lodge and found it to be very good value, clean, well maintained and welcoming. No bar or eating facility at the hotel so take breakfast directly opposite in the tiny cafe bar, very friendly, good food and sensible prices. Would stay here again and drive into Yosemite is direct and easy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room 'at the back' it's quieter !

On a spur of the moment, I decided to travel from Oregon to the San Francisco Bay Area to visit my best friends. Little did they know that we would be making a two-day overnight trip to Yosemite.

There was no place to stay in the park due to the famous "Fire-falls" or Horsetail Falls and all the photographers there to shoot. This year, there was no water but no rooms either.

So, the closest place to stay was in Mariposa. All the other Inn's were full or under construction. The Mariposa Inn was recommended. After reading some of the reviews here, was a little apprehensive about staying, but glad we did.

The beds are just wonderful...I don't think I turns over once...lol The staff are very helpful and treated us exceedingly well. Our room was an end room and very large with two queen beds; flat panel TV and wifi...what more could you want?

The rate was really good considering there was three of us, but again, it could be their winter rate, but I would definitely stay here again.

If you are spending more than a day or two in Yosemite National Park, it is a bit of a drive; about 40-45 minutes.

I would recommend this Lodge to others.

Room Tip: Heater actually turns off when the room reaches the temp you have set. What a bonus!

We made reservations over the phone with Melissa and inmediately I felt how genuine her assistance was to all questions and concerns I expressed. She was right on the money with the lodge and all nearby business in this little historic town. Both rooms were very spacious and spiffy. Some T.V. appliances were dated but, still operational and I wasn't there to watch the tube anyhow. The lodge surroundings were also very clean and I even observed employees always trying to maintain its manicured appearance.I will be returning to this place in the near future without any doubts whatsoever. There is a great coffee shop across the street with very fair breakfast and awesome java.

Room Tip: ask for room at the courtyard, quieter and more privacy

If you are looking for a great price on a motel less than 45 minutes outside Yosemite look no more. Although looking at this motel from the street I was worried as its really old school...the inside however was very updated with flat screen TVs and updated rooms. Being originally an older hotel the rooms are extremely spacious and clean. The front office person, she was very friendly. Don't forget this time of year chains may be required to enter Yosemite or you will be turned back so get them outside the park as they are $70 and $40 to put them on in the park.

Mariposa Lodge is located in the middle of Mariposa. Perfect for walking to various places after being on the road. We stayed after an all day Yosemite tour. Our room was clean and spacious. The bath has been upgraded with tile. A great place for the price.

Spent two nights and days in this charming little Sierra Foothills town about 45 min out side of Yosemite. The museum is charming and has incredible local history all the way back to John C. Fremont who lived nearby, old buildings restored, Art galleries, good restaurants. The Mariposa lodge has lots of rooms basically all are on one level, very clean and was quiet since we were there just after Thanksgiving. The lodge is in the middle of Mariposa and you can walk from one end of town to the other. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: recommend rooms in back, or balcony rooms.
