For our 4 day L.A. stay we wanted something larger than a regular hotel room to be our retreat, and we wanted to be in the Marina del Rey area. The first thing we checked were the reviews on TripAdvisor. This hotel had consistently good, and some rave, reviews for hotels in this price range.
There was free covered parking right next to the lobby. Some of the other similar hotels in the area lacked that. The entire staff was friendly and accomodating through our stay. Our two room suite was very clean (with exception of the carpets), charmingly decorated, the mattress and many pillows very comfortable, t.v. sets were in bedroom and sitting room, sliding french type doors separated the two rooms. It was a wonderful retreat. The sitting area and bedroom windows looked down onto a small courtyard nicely done with patio tables, chairs, umbrellas. Right next door is a convenience/liquor store. and a few minute's walk down the street is an excellent Italian restaurant which I highly recommend. The free breakfast was typical Holiday Inn Express, high on the carbs, but plentiful, with hard boiled eggs for us protein lovers.
There were some minuses that, if fixed, would put our stay in the excellent category: The lobby was small, cluttered, shabby and definitely could use an update. (However, the small, sparking clean fish aquarium in the anteroom to the lobby was a welcoming touch that somehow made me feel better.)
Smokers congregated in the courtyard area, often late at night. and we like our windows open. We didn't notice a smoke smell but that could be a problem according to room location.
Another small discomfort: The large heating/air conditioning unit was placed above the windows in the sitting area. The fan blew downward and felt like sitting in a strong wind.
Definitely deserving an F grade was the filthy, and I mean filthy, carpeting in hallway and room. Ugh. Very puzzling given the pristine condition of the rest of the room.
Would I stay there again? You bet! I would hope, though, for cleaner carpets!

  • Liked — comfort and charm of our suite;free, covered ultra convenient parking
  • Disliked — very dirty carpeting.

This is nothing fancy but for the area, it is reasonable, roomy and extremely clean and accomodating. Free covered parking, a decent continental breakfast, SUPER comfortable beds and a very pleasant staff are a few of the perks. We stayed in two different rooms because we left for OC and came back before leaving town, they both were fine but the larger interior corridor room was the best. You may want to ask if one of those is available, I can imagine it might be noisy if you were in a room on the busy street side. There are several restaurants nearby but we didn't go to any of them, we visited family. Overall a good experience, I would definitely stay here again.

Marina Del Rey was very nice. Our room was in excellent condition and very clean. The size was quite generous (compared to Australian hotels) as was the bed size - more like kings, our three children were able to share one bed quite comfortably. Although we did see one roach over our two night stay.

The beds were extremely comfortable, pillows were fantastic. Manager Ricky was very helpful. Breakfast was excellent and had great variety including cereal, bagels, bread for toasting, pastries, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, fruit, tea and coffee.

Great Pizzeria across the road called Johnnie's Marina Del Rey.

The pool was nice too. Venice Beach was not too far away but was still a good walk probably about a leisurely 30 minute walk.

  • Liked — Breakfast, Pizzeria across the road, nice accommodation
  • Disliked — Nil

My husband and his boss had stayed at this hotel in June, so we decided to return for a few days to recoup from a convention we attended on the East Coast before heading home.

The location was great and the rooms were very comfortable and quite big. The beds are awesome and I slept well every night. The rooms have a safe and a fridge which are always bonuses.

This hotel only had a couple of downsides, the first being the elevator, I hate elevators to begin with, but this one was ridiculous - very small and slow. I decided to use the stairs but each time I had to use the stairs after 5pm I had to get the front desk staff to unlock the stairwell door - more inconvenient for them than me! The other downside was the breakfast, by the time I got down for breakfast, usually around 9am, there wasn't a lot there to choose from - not a lot that I like anyway. However, my husband and I didn't find this too much of an issue as we just popped around to the local Coffee Bean and grabbed a bagel and a coffee.

Front desk staff were extremely friendly. Autumn was the supervisor when we were there who was only too happy to help with any of our requests! We requested a late checkout on our last day (3pm) and that was not a problem - no additional fees incurred!

Free parking is also great, we didn't have an issue getting a park (as it's first come, first served).

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is passing through and wants to spend some time in the Venice Beach area!

Enjoy!!!
