“A new name on an old hotel”

I knew this hotel as a Marriott Courtyard, now it's a Hilton Doubletree. Both hotels were good. Breakfast is outstanding. Bed is comfortable and amenities are fine. Only problem is a little road noise from a road taking traffic off the Marina Freeway.

We got a deeply discounted rate for a weekend, and felt we had gotten a really good deal. The hotel is a short drive from LAX, but unless you like looking at boats, there's not much in the immediate area. Our room was moderately large, equipped with the basics, free WiFi, free parking, and cookies, but this is not a high-end hotel. Staff was generally pretty good, although they didn't refill the coffee service or remove the used coffee filter.

I don't have a ton of negatives to say about this hotel but for the price (average around 150 per night or so) I expected a lot more in amenities. Maybe a lobby bar or even a tv screen somewhere. There was no real room service - rather some local places that deliver and charge extra service fees so they call that room service. Twice while we were out at the pool/jacuzzi area in the early evening they ran out of towels. One of the elevators had a dark stain on the carpet which they cleaned but only after a couple of days.

The positives: The location was great however and the view right above the tops of the boats in the harbor was super nice. There was always a cool breeze. The breakfast was really good though a bit overpriced. The rooms were clean and the beds soooo comfy! The staff were all very pleasant and helpful as well.

This hotel would score higher if the price were lower. This is something I would expect in the lower $100 range, not mid. All in all however a decent place and beautiful location.

The hotel overall was fair. It would have been good if not for the twenty mosquitoe bites my wife received that night in our room while sleeping. Our shower drain was clogged and there was a $15.00 parking fee to park in the hotel outside lot. This is a first for us to have such a fee.

In preparation for our vacation I read many hotel reviews online, so I was very apprehensive about what to expect at whichever hotel we decided on. To my surprise and relief, our stay at the Double Tree Hotel in Marina Del Rey, CA was very enjoyable. It was very clean throughout with a pleasant appearance and smell. The warm cookies, free lobby computer use, and free parking made the stay even more enjoyable. The shower water pressure could be stronger, but overall it was a great stay. I definitely would recommend this hotel to anyone and I plan to stay there again when I return to L.A.

Front desk staff needs to be more friendly and accomdating. Most are former Marriott Courtyard employees as this hotel has recently switched over from a Courtyard (03/2013). Optimistic improvements will come. Hopefully I'll feel more welcomed on the next vist or that next visit will be changed to another area hotel. Time for room renovations as well although I have found the beds and linens to be very comfortable and in good condition. The building structure itself is that of and older hotel and this may be the reason for some of the problems. Not an easy fix, but a more friendly/accomdating staff is.

Comfort is the operative word here - comfortable beds, comfortable surroundings, comfort in knowing your are in a secure environment, everything about this hotel was delightful. We booked the hotel because of its location to Santa Monica, but at a more reasonable rate than the Santa Monica hotels, and we ended up wishing we could have stayed longer for a mini-vacation. The pool is inviting, great gym, warm cookies and fruit, plus a refreshing cask of citrus water to quench one's thirst. Loved our stay and will go to Doubletrees when we can. Why pay the long dollar when you can get equal quality, comfort, and amenities at a more affordable price?
