I rarely write reviews on anything but wanted to share our experience. My husband and I needed a place to stay for the night and after calling tons of hotels and motels tying to find one with vacancy, we finally found this one!! We were so lucky that they had a room available and we were absolutely thrilled with the service we received. The woman at the front desk was amazing. She was extremely kind and walked us through the amenities of the inn, which included fresh made coffee throughout the day, shelves of DVDs that we could borrow and watch in our room, and menus to the Cheesecake Factory which was conveniently located next door! (which has a beautful outdoor dinner area by the way). We couldn't be happier with our stay and recommended this place to everyone!

Marina del Rey is not cheap. You really pay for the location, on the man-made marina. That's what we wanted - a balcony over the marina. We got that, but it doesn't come cheap ;) The room was clean, the bed was comfy, but the place is showing it's age. The hallway was dark and dingy. There was an indeterminate stain running down the front of the fridge in our room that was permanent and distracting. TV did not receive very many channels, but there are DVD's they loan you if you wish. The bathroom, while reno'd, is very clearly an old tub that's been refinished. But, like I said, what you are paying for is the view and the location. Parking is free, a nice treat, and the location is perfect, with a cheesecake factory next door (we didn't notice any noise or smells, but we were in the middle of the hotel.). There is a mini-mart/liquor store right next door. We decided we would go back, but I am betting the place will soon go the way of the Jamaica Bay down the street and be leveled for a deluxe hotel at three times the price ;).

Room Tip: If you don't pay for a Marina View, save your money and stay at a cheaper hotel inland, because...

Thank you for your comments. I hope you complained about the stain on the refrigerator. We try to keep the hotel spic and span, particularly because it is older. We offer competitive prices and many free amenities to compensate. It is not in our near future plans to raze & build a new hotel.
We hope you come again.

Our second stay here. Easy to find, you walk toe beach, then onto Venice and Santa Monica beaches...lot to see along the beach front..people, entertainment on the beach and sidewalk, beach stores, views of the waves, and seagull! Room is average size, free wi fi, fridge, flat screen tv with cable and local channels, great bed, pillows and quality towels. The night receptionist is friendly and helpful, she has been here at least a year. Breakfast is do it yourself continental. Toast, bagels, cereal choice of cold or instant oatmeal, microwave sandwiches, fresh oranges and apples, yoghurt, hard boiled eggs. Coffee, teas, hot chocolate and instant apple cider are available at breakfast and all day in reception

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor, marina side. Ground floor is actually one flight down but on the marina s...

Thank you for your comments. Please come again. Have you tried the "Cheesecake Factory" package? Great food and reasonable prices. If you have leftovers you can have them boxed and store in your refrigerator for snacks or next day treats. Thank you & we hope you tell your friends about the Foghorn Harbor Inn!

Fantastic location. Right on the beach. Incredible value for money. Free parking. Wireless internet for our teenage daughters. Cheesecake factory next door was a big plus!

Nice clean room with fridge and microwave. Picked a ground floor room which is first floor on the beach side meaning more privacy. Slghtly put off by fumes from the Cheesecake factory next door but they were only slight. Breakfast room a little small with plastic cutlery and paper crockery but good selection of cereals and tea/coffee. Breakfast was self serve and if you turned up at the wrong time there would be no seats available. Being on the beach was convenient for the children though a little busy at the weekend when there were parties taking place. Venice beach is only a short walk away where bicycles could be hired.

Thank you for your comments on our hotel. We truly appreciate your time, it helps us try to improve, wherever we can. We hope you come again (perhaps try the "package", which includes a discount at the Cheesecake Factory). If you haven't eaten there, it is hard to beat. Prices, choices and quality; all next door, walking distance.

Stayed here for a night before taking a morning flight out of LAX. For this purpose, you can't do better -- it's just a little over a 10 minute drive to LAX, no traffic (at least in my experience driving there at 7am), and so much nicer than a bland airport hotel to wake up to sunrise over Marina del Ray.

PROs-
1. The views
2. The location
3. Private patio (at least w/my "lower marina view" room) complete with light and lounge chair -- was very peaceful reading here at night, with a gentle sea breeze coming in
4. Free parking & proximity to LAX
5. Service. The people were very nice!

AVERAGE
The rooms. They had a beachy feel, and if you looked one direction (toward the bed, and the patio) it looked quaint and nice, if you looked the other direction (toward the door, bathroom, and closet) it looked very spartan and dated.

CON
The breakfast. Everything was prepackaged. Would almost be better if they just knocked a couple dollars off the rate and dispensed with the breakfast.

Overall, I would recommend particularly if you're flying out of LAX. I can't say enough how beautiful it was in the surrounding environment, watching the sunrise over the marina. Also, the walk to Venice Beach is short and offers lots of restaurant options.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our hotel. Sorry about the pre-packaged breakfast items. We are governed by the County Health Department and are limited by their requirements.
We do take pride in our many "free" amenities, lower prices and fabulous view.

Stayed here for one night. We were coming in late from a cross country flight and were looking for a place close to the airport to crash. It's about 10 minutes from LAX and was easy to find. This place is a great value. Free wi-fi, free parking, and a decent complimentary breakfast. The room was very clean and even though it looked a little outdated, we thought it added to the character of the hotel. We would have liked to stay longer and enjoy the view of Mother's Beach and the Marina.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony for the best view of the beach.
