“friendly elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2011

While visiting family, we spent an extended stay at the Marriott Marina Del Rey and had a wonderful vacation. We travel extensively and found the hotel staff to be as friendly and professional as any we have ever experienced, while not being overly intrusive.

The pool/hot tub area is small, but beautiful. The lobby is extensive (rare today) and lobby bar active and excellent. Even the restaurant was attentive, bright and reasonably priced with excellent food. Location is convenient to the Marina, restaurants and Venice Beach. Rooms clean and modern.

While there is a slight extra charge for a Marina view, we found the city view (from a mid to high floor) just as nice with better sight to the ocean and even the Santa Monic Pier.

If we had one issue, it was generally slow internet access in the rooms. If you needed to do major downloads, you needed to do so in the lobby area (where there was more than enough private seating to do so).

The Hotel itself is nothing special but it has all the basics you would need for a short stay. If you are looking for a great variety of food and entertainment , this is definitely not the place to stay. The breakfast buffet is small and with few selections but there is an a la cart menue which does offer some other additional choices. The service in the restaurant is impressive as well as the room service but in terms of the quality of food it is very poor and overpriced. The restaurant itself is only open at 5pm which means during lunch you can order only food at the bar which is the same menue as the room service menue. If you want additionally any fresh healthy food such as vegetables or some plain rice- you will not get it!!! You only get unhealthy carbs and protein. The personnel at the check in front desk was not very friendly/professional at times but overall they did accomodate your wishes.

Not European standards and it is expensive, but still a lot going for this Marriott. Stylish bars/lobby, friendly staff, nice small pool area, easy walking distance of Venice Beach and the beach path which is easy walking /cycling to all the other beach resorts. The marina's unattractive but the best rooms overlook it. Downside is that you need a car or plenty of bucks for taxis to get anywhere other than the beach, but if you don't want to stay in the smog but still need access to the city itself, this is a good compromise. Pletnty of eateries and drinkeries in walking distance.
In-room Wifi is chargeable and wired, but lobby / concierge level is free wireless

Came in on a Thursday after staying at a top-of-the-line hotel down on Sunset Blvd., just had to try it. This Marriott was far better, customer service, valet parking is the best out of anywhere that i have stayed----ever. From D.C. to Miami to Dallas to Maine, this place is my favorite. Good location, on site resturant is great and the outside lounge is very inviting. Make sure you request a room that overlooks the marina. I ended up staying 3 nights 4 days.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary weekend there. The location was great, right across the street from a private beach and within walking distance to Venice Beach and several restaurants. However, I am a bit disappointed with the customer service. When I checked in the hotel clerk said "I hear that you are celebrating a wedding or something" eventhough I clearly noted on my reservation that I was celebrating my anniversary and once again when I called to confirm. It would have been nice to receive a note from the manager, a rose or something to make our trip special. We could have chosen to stay at any other hotel in the area including the Ritz-Carlton (which is right down the street) where I am sure they would have been more appreciative of their customers. Overall good stay, the bathrooms could use a little sprucing up, but I would recommend it to others--just not for a special occassion.

We stayed twice in September once on the 5th floor where we had a nice room over looking the marina. We stayed again on the 4th floor where the room was old, the corridor carpet was worn and dirty. As we were staying only one night and we arrived late we could not be bothered changing rooms. The best thing about the hotel is its location relatively near to the airport $25 to $30 cab fare and near to the marina and Venice beach.
