February 2008. Three night stay at the Manhattan Beach Marriott. I fly into LAX and took Prime Time Shuttle van to this property. About 10 minute drive. The shuttle cost was $12.00 each way. I booked online with Prime Time. Pick was on time and preceded by a phone message to my cell phone.
The Weather was sunny and warm. This property is boxed inside
office park, shopping center, country club and some residences.
There is a McCormick Schmidt restaurant nearby.
Check-in at the Marriot was friendly. They offer fresh fruit in the lobby. My room was on the third floor. The room had plenty of light during the day with the curtains open but at night it was a bit dark. The room was cleaned and cleaned up well each day. The room has separate chair and ottoman. Desk and desk chair. The bed was a little less comfortable than most Marriott beds. There was no property directory in the room, so I had to ask onsite staff about the location of the properties features.
The bathroom was clean and well cleaned each day. Water pressure and temprature were okay.
This property reminded me of the Marriot Desert Springs property in Palm Desert, which I wrote a review of. In terms of room decor and features.
There is 9 hole executive golf course on the property with the longest hole being 165 yards. Reasonable green fee.
One of the best amenities of this property is a very good gym. Located on the bottom floor near the ballroom. Plenty of aerobic machines and weight resistance machines too.
Personal t.v.s on each of the machines. Fresh fruit flavored water and fruit too. Reminded me of the Newport Beach Marriott gym at Fashion Island.
I was attending U.S.C. Center for Effective Organizations - HR Metrics & Analytics Seminar which was very good and worth my time attending versus my time spent at Cornell ILR Executive HR Strategy program in Ithaca last September. Which was worth my time and investment.
We had three lunches and one dinner and three continental breakfasts at the seminar onsite in their ballroom. The meals were better than average for hotel event meals.
Nearby, a five to ten minute walk up a hill (West of the property) is Manhattan Beach mall featuring a Macy's department store. See's candy store is in the complex as well and I highly recommend this CA based candymaker. Also in this shopping complex are a Ralph's supermarket and Rite Aid drug store. The CCoffee Bean inside Ralph's gave me the wrong item so be sure to check what they put in your bag. Several resturants including Koo Koo Roo, Olive Garden, CA Pizza Kitchen, Chinese Fusion restaurant and Sports Bar are also in the shopping complex. There is also BBQ joint called Joeys, with small seating which was good.
Everyone I came in contact with at this property was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very convenient to LAX aiport. If I attend another U.S.C. C.E.O. seminar, I will try to book this property, which is a good recommendation.
