“Stayed 7 nights - Best Kept Secret - Great Value and Breakfast too!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2009

We just came back from a 7 night stay and had not one complaint. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The staff is so friendly and helpful. There is a free computer in the lobby for your use and washers and dryers on the premises and a work-out room. Now let's talk about value.............free breakfast buffet each morning--wine, beer and snacks during the week at 5:30 to 7:30 pm each night and coffee, tea and cappacinos available 24 hours a day. Our family booked 3 rooms for our stay and had no complaints about the noise from traffic........just ask for a suite in the back not on the street as we did. We used the comments from Trip Advisor in choosing Hawthorn Suites. At breakfast we even met another couple from Connecticut that used Trip Advisor for their stay. There is one thing you must know about this hotel. Parking is under the building which is not a big deal once you figure the system out. We will definitely stay here again and at other Hawthorn Suites in the U.S.

One of the BEST hotel Experiences I have ever had!!! I have traveled extensively throughout the world and I must say the Hawthorn Suites Manhattan Beach is a GEM of a hotel. They have captured the warmth and quality service oriented attitude of many 5 Star hotels at an EXCEPTIONAL value.

I was amazed upon check in as I was greeted with a genuine friendly smile ( they were actually HAPPY to see me) and offered a "Welcome Gift, Freshly baked Home Made Cookies and a Bottled Water - @ no extra charge. My stay got even better – in addition to the lovely, elegantly appointed suites with wet bar, and kitchenettes, I received on a complimentary basis high speed and wireless internet, tasty full hot breakfast buffet, weekday social hour with a good Merlot . The hotel also offers their guests Chardonnay and beer, and appetizers and complimentary light dinner / covered parking. It STILL gets better; the hotel offers a complimentary chair massage during the Wednesday social hour. I was treated to a 5 - 7 minute massage with a Massage Therapist and the Massage was one of several choices - Deep Tissue being one of them.
The Fitness Room was comfortable and well appointed and I felt as if I was working out from the comfort of my own home.

The staff is EXTRAORDINARY and have been with the hotel for a long time. You don't see the high turnover you find @ other properties. This is my 5th visit here. I stay approximately twice a year, 1 month at a time and appreciate being welcomed back by the Hotel Team. I use the word “TEAM” because they are a true Team and you can feel the warmth and hospitality from each Team Member and throughout the hotel.
I will NEVER stay anywhere else again when I visit LA / Manhattan Beach

  • Liked — The Location, staff and overall value. I felt I got a lot for my money but more importantly, they were happy to have me there.

This was the last three nights of our stay in California and we were very pleased with this hotel. It wasn't the cheapest but the quality of service and accomodation was superb.
We were greeted with a welcome pack including water, fresh cookies, John Frieda shampoo, cereal bar and a men's and ladies shaver!
The room was comfortable with plenty of room, fridge and coffee maker.
The bonus was complimentary wine, beer and snacks Monday to Thursday from 17.30 till 19.30!!
The only negative was the fact that the walls were quite thin and if someone had a TV on it could just be heard. But this wasn't a great problem.

This place was an oasis having checked out of the dreadful Comfort Inn after just one night. The guy on the front desk couldn't have been more helpful, and the facilites were great. I used the laundry to catch up on the washing, and couldn't believe how cheap it was. The small kitchen area was adequate for simple meals, and there was a separate bedroom for the parents. The kids managed on the pullout sofa bed. The room was very clean. Our room was adjacent to the busy road, so there was some traffic noise, but I am a light sleeper and it didn't bother me too much. Choose a room away from the road if you can.

If it had a swimming pool it would have been near perfect, but the beach is only a short drive away

As a female traveller, I felt comfortable staying on my own at this place, the room was nice and clean, with a great kitchen area.

It was quite a walk from the beach area but good links to LAX

Staying in one bedroom suite for 8 nights, booked through corporate services at work at $147/night.

What I like:
-free basic hot breakfast buffet
-free high speed internet in room
-free happy hour with cheap wine
-comfortable bed
-kitchen seems updated with newer appliances, granite counter top
-friendly staff
-convenient location; all within a short drive are tons of restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy, banks, drug store, and the beach, also close to the airport.

What I don't like:
- the loudest toilet in the world; if you flush the toilet in the middle of the night, you better believe that the entire family will wake up, PLUS the neighbors (theirs wakes us up).
- no access to the bathroom from living area, must go through the bedroom
- no door between bedroom and bathroom sink
- living area pretty small, if sofa bed is unfolded, can't walk through.
- unit is small for one bedroom, not enough light, not enough air circulation, would feel pretty claustrophobic if had to spend most of a day in this room
-poor layout, feels awkward
- office chair literally in the kitchen and kitchen counter also serves as office desk
- no dining table/chairs
- no central air/heat, loud wall unit for cooling/heating
- the carpet is pretty bad (old, dirty, unattractive, wouldn't step on barefoot, etc)
- the neighborhood of the hotel is not great- right on busy street with nothing interesting in the immediate vicinity

All in all, I am here for business so I am gone most of they day, which makes this hotel satisfactory for my purpose. However, my husband and son are here with me and are on vacation and it's less satisfactory for them- both the hotel room, and the location.
