The place was mobbed on a Wednesday night ( a good sign, I think - though a lot of places seemed packed in Manhattan Beach in the middle of he week on a normally slow restaurant night). Simmzy's has a lot going for it that makes it an excellent choice for casual beach dining with good seafood on the menu:
-- Though crowded the bartender gave me a heads up as to who had paid, etc. so I could hover and get a seat at the bar.
-- Very nice brews on tap, local, and microbreweries around the country represented. I can recommend the Firestone Reserve Porter Port Brewing's Board Meeting Brown Ale - if all my Board meetings had this as the beverage they'd go lot smoother.
-- Very good ceviche with locally caught fish and crisp shoestring fires that were a hit with me and the two fellow barflies I met, including a Russian marathoner. We ended up sharing food, drink and stories, another good reason to sit at the bar for dinner, especially when eating alone (business trip). The fish tacos were also very good with a good amount of heat.
-- The prices are reasonable (especially for typically high end Manhattan Beach)
--It's just a couple blocks from the beach and pier, and has outside as well as indoor dining.
