I chose this motel because of its great location and proximity to my meetings in Malibu. I called the hotel directly (the website has no on-line booking option) and was encouraged by the friendly tone of the customer service agent.

One request I made was for a late check-out on my departure day, Sunday morning. The agent said she couldn't commit at the time of booking, but that there was an automatic 1 hour grace period and that I could discuss the matter during check-in. However, I had a late arrival and the clerk on duty was unwilling to commit to a late check-out.

The room itself was attractive, but noise blasted in from all directions. In addition to relentless highway noise, the sounds of my neighbors above, below and to either side poured through the walls (and vice versa!).

The room itself lacked amenities...No coffee pot, no alarm clock, no wake-up service, minimal toiletries and a short supply of threadbare towels.

Finally on departure day, I was 15 minutes past the official check-out time (11 AM) and received a rude phone call from housekeeping demanding that I leave immediately. I looked out into the parking lot and noticed that it was nearly half-full with vehicles. Nonetheless I hastened my efforts to make sure that I would never have to see this place again except at 45 MPH from the Pacific Coast Highway.

Oh my gosh - one of the worst motel/hotel experiences ever. Young, could give a darn staff, no air conditioning, heater stuck on ( 90 degrees outside), massive din at all hours from the Pacific Coast Highway a few feet away makes it almost impossible to relax, much less sleep. The TV is big as a small computer monitor (17"), and the only things in the room literally were two bad beds, and a metal bread rack for clothes, luggage etc. Oh - and a table lamp. That's it folks - and for $200/night with taxes. Walls are paper thin so you can hear everything below, above and to each side in excrutiating detail, including other peoples breathing, TV's and in our case, retching. The drunk guy next store spent the whole night vomiting loudly and listening to TV at 120 decibels. We did not sleep a wink either of the two nights we stayed there. We never wanted to be in the room - ever - so we stayed away until the last possible minute. Beware, when you get a room they have a disclaimer that no refunds are made - ever. Not enough parking either, and if one parking space in particular is used, no one can get out. Also someone damaged our rental car while it was parked there without telling us.

Read the reviews regarding the noise level of PCH being a problem but considering the great price and location decided to risk it. When I made the reservation I requested a room at the back, fartherest away from PCH. Was assured no problem (reservations made 3 wks in advance mind you) & down stairs as my husband & I brought our bikes. Well, our room was 2 rooms in from the street, although I was disappointed the noise from the street was bearable when it came time to actually go to sleep. What was not bearable, was the noise from the partying going on in the room above us and all around us it started at 12:30am and continued until 3am. Young 20 somethings drinking and screaming and basically just carrying on. I guess for the price this is what you get. It's really too bad, will NOT stay here agaiin. Incidentally the office closes and LEAVES at 8pm.
Gee...I wonder why???

I had read the tripadvisor reviews and decided I could live with a "minimalist decor.". "and no frills thing for the good price"
....I Wish I would have read or absorbed the review that said NOISIEST PLACE EVER. BECAUSE IT WAS!
Oh my goodness people. We drove up...and I was mortified. We knocked on the office door, and we knocked and knocked (I figured the attendant/clerk probably couldn't hear me over the ROAR of the non stop Pacific Coast HIGHWAY!) ....and then knocked again..and then banged. No answer. FINALLY a woman came around the corner after "giving someone a tour of the facilities". HA!
I asked to take a look at what would be our room...my daughter and I went up and the room was really cute. The bathroom was really cute, recently redone (except for crappy windows that didn't actually close all the way..noise noise noise) We were trying to assess if we could stand the noise of sleeping in the middle of the PCH.
We decided we could not after 2 vans loaded with surfer kids (having a GREAT TIME) BUT LOUD rowdy, crazy pulled in. So the prospect of sleeping next to those kids with paper thin motel walls AND the PCH...nope. Couldn't do it.
SO the clerk happily canceled my reservation and charged us nothing. I had decided I was willing to leave a night's worth of money as a penalty but I could tell it was not the first time someone had canceled upon arrival. The pool was a JOKE. I am not sure that more than 4 people could have fit in it at the same time.
YUCK STAY AWAY, unless you are deaf.

  • Liked — thought it would be a great price...but not worth it.
  • Disliked — NOISE NOISE. It would be like sleeping in the middle of any 6 lane highway in America.

My daughter and I stayed at this motel, because the other more highly rated one was already booked. We were visiting Pepperdine University on Tuesday and this motel was close to it.

I will write a pros and cons list for your review. And also post photos so you can see what I am talking about.

Pros: 1) Our room had a tiny refrigerator. We liked that since we had brought some cheese and grapes for snacks.
2) We brought in the plastic patio furniture from the outside to lay some of our things down on.
3) Very clean.
4) Comfortable futon height beds.
5) Full length mirror next to shower in the bathroom.
6) Nice recessed lighting that can be dimmed.
7) Nice Flagstone type tiling in the bathroom.
8) There is a Natural Food store next door to the motel ( on the north side), next to the Pizza restaurant this food store is open 8 am to 8 pm. They do serve coffee and bagels and other baked goods for breakfast.

Cons:
1) No Coffee maker or cups in the room or bathroom of any kind. 2) No clock in the room of any kind or type.
3) No instructions on the phone as to how to get a hold of the front desk, you have to walk down to it to talk to anyone there.
4) No closet, just a metal grate to stack suitcases ( see photos), and no hangers on the metal grate to hang clothes.

5) A 13 inch flat screen TV, hard to see that well while laying in bed.
6) We could easily discern the next door neighbors conversation through the walls at 5 am in the morning.
7) Very noisy freeway noise all night long.
8) No keelnex in the bathroom or rooms.
9) No iron or ironing board to iron clothes.
10) The top of the bathroom mirror ( above the sink)came up to the bottom of my chin, and I am 5"5. I had to bend down to see putting on make up.

Since we were traveling by car, if I knew all this, I could have brought with me a coffee maker, cups, hangers, a clock, and maybe a sound machine to drown out the freeway noise and neighbor noise. Then I would have enjoyed my stay here much more. Also, I wish I would have known about the Natural food store, it would have been better to get breakfast there while in a hurry in the morning.

  • Liked — I liked that it was close to Pepperdine University and it was very clean, and the beach was across the street.
  • Disliked — For America, it just didn't have the basic things that hotels offer to US citizens, no clock, no coffee maker, and very noisy. Paper thin walls, lots of freeway noise.
