“Perfect Spa Day at Summit Spa in the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

We drove out from Calgary and spent the day at the Summit Spa in the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis. The drive was scenic and less than an hour; we enjoyed our timmie's coffee and view during our drive. Parking was ample and signage to the Lodge was easy to follow.

Once at the spa, we were greeted by the staff and estheticians and began our day. Our group enjoyed relaxing massages, enbrightenment facials, chocolate and champagne body wraps and Caribbean hand treatments. The Summit Spa uses Avenda procedures and products and it is exactly what you would expect from any Aveda spa. The staff were friendly, well trained and accommodating. The pricing for the treatments are comparable to other Aveda spas.

In between treatments we enjoyed a small lunch at the Bighorn Lounge. The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. The atmosphere relaxed and informal; the mountain views were spectacular!

We absolutely enjoyed our day and look forward to returning again soon.

Our group stayed at the Mount Kidd Lodge for a management retreat. Rooms are a good size with a comfortable bed, exceptional housekeeping standard as at all Delta Hotels. Only caution is that the rooms are not air conditioned. Because you are in the mountains it does cool off at night but on hot days the rooms get warm, especially during the day. The hotel does have mobile fans in the rooms to help. Of course the location of the hotel is in a resort setting with all the pluses of nearby golf courses, mountain views, hiking trail systems etc.

Location, Location, Location! The hotel is a very clean hotel in an excellent location. The service is top notch in the hotel and the staff seem to care about their guests. The food in the hotel has declined but otherwise this is a great and affordable place to stay.

My first impression of the resort was that it looked beautiful from the outside. Check in was quick and smooth, and Julie at the front desk was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. She also noticed we were celebrating a birthday, and gave us complimentary valet parking.

Our room was in the Mount Kidd Manor building, and it wasn't quite what I had expected for a Delta. I've stayed at the property in Banff numerous times, and booked in Kananaskis based on my fantastic experiences in Banff. The building, and the room were definitely a bit outdated. Our screen door was so old, and stuck, you had to pull it open with a bit of force. As well, there was no air conditioning in the room (which is my own fault for not asking). Our room was also extremely dusty. The light which was above the vanity in the washroom area had dust clumps which almost looked like they were stuck in cobwebs. When I looked underneath the vanity, there was a thick, long layer of dust where the carpet met the wall. We found a fan in the closet since there was no air conditioning, and plugged it in near the bed - once we turned it on, we could actually see the massive amounts of dust being blown around in the air. A bit gross. Aside from all of that, the bed was unbelievably comfortable!

We had dinner at Season's Steakhouse, and it was probably the highlight of our stay there! Absolutely amazing food, and amazing staff. They really knew their stuff, and were extremely accommodating to my severe food allergies.

The next morning when we went to check out, I noticed my complimentary valet parking had actually been charged to the bill, but the girl at the desk was quite fast to apologize and remove the charge. She called over to the valet, and had them grab my car for us. Once we left the hotel we drove to Canmore for some lunch, and realized once we got there that the valet had left a set of hotel master keys in one of the seats. I called the hotel and spoke to an agent, who said a manager would call me back in a few minutes. Two hours later and no one had called - which was a bit odd to me since I had a set of master keys in my hand (definitely a security problem). We called back, and asked to speak to a manager, who actually ended up being quite helpful. We drove over to the Casino near the hotel, and a valet met us there to retrieve the keys. In return, we got a $50 credit on our bill.

All in all, I don't think I would stay here again. I'd much rather stay at the property in Banff.

My wife and I thought it would be nice to travel up to The Delta Lodge in Kananaskis and have lunch at the Fireweed Grill. The mountains were spectacular, the restaurant was not. We waited 5 minutes while the hostess was talking to someone on the phone, a simple acknowledgement to say she would be right with us would have been nice. We asked for a table beside the window and we were taken over to one near the window even though the the table next to it was empty and at the window. We sat down at the window table. I should also mention that the restaurant was quite empty at the time. We ordered the Vegetarian Tartlet and the Wild Pacific Ling Cod Fish and Chips. The Tartlet came luke warm but on the plus side tasted excellent. The wild ling cod was awful. The beer batter was like a piece of soggy cardboard ( full of oil ) and the cod was over cooked, dried out and flavourless. It tasted like an old cheap fishstick that had spent one too many months in the freezer. These fish and chips don't belong on any Delta Hotel menu.

So, lets start with the service. Not one hotel employee during the 3 nights we were there failed to smile and say hello when they say us in the hallways, everyone was super nice and attentive and always concerned about how we were enjoying ourselves. Granted, we were there midweek, so it was super slow. But for me, this is my type of vacation! The mountain views are extraordinary and breath taking. It was an amazing time for sure. They offer complimentary breakfasts and 4 PM Hors d'oeuvres which were nothing short of amazing. I have nothing bad to say about this place. The room attendant staff were non evasive, all you have to do is fill out a card before you go to bed, hang it on your door knob which says the time you want them to make up your room the next day and they will not bother you at all!! The hot tub and pool is huge and inviting. The workout room offers many different varieties of machines and work out tools, yup!! The whole place is awesome. Be sure to check out my other reviews of the restaurants on this property as I have reviewed them all separately. I definitely recommend this place for any type of getaway you might have in mind. Nakiska Ski Area is literally 2 minutes away, they provide ski and golf equipment storage and get this: they even meet you at the front door to greet you when you first check in!! When does that happen?? I could go on and on for a while trying to explain the awe I experienced my whole time there, but I will leave it to you to decide for yourself. Thanks Delta! GREAT JOB!!

Room Tip: Stay in the Mt. Sparrowhawk Suite. Worth every penny and moment!!

We stayed at this Delta hotel by fluke wanting to ski and snowboard close to Calgary. It is less than 30 minstrel off the Trans Canada trail. What a find! This hotel is exquisite, and the staff are fantastic! We stayed in the Signature Club, well worth the price! Our room was a loft room and came complete with a real wood fireplace. The hot tub is very cool as it goes outside! Nakiska ski resort is 2 minstrel away, and really has runs to suit everyone. My wife is a novice skier and she did fine here. We'll worth the short deviation off the main highway. We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Signature Club!
