“Great Experience! EXCELLENT STAFF!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

FRIENDLY STAFF!!! They made this trip great from the front desk to the dining room and the Casino staff.
The buffet is the BEST! Service second to none.
Didn't win in the Casino but the staff made it a pleasure to be here.
This is our four stay here and it has gotten better.
Don't change your staff they are your main asset.

We had an awesome stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were clean and spacious. Our Grandkids loved the pool and waterslide! We were lucky to get a room, as the Banff triathalon was on. We enjoyed walking by Barriere Lake. The Casino allowed us to take our Granddog, "Spirit" along too!

Lobby was nice but our room was a whole different story. One bed was covered in food crumbs and the other in long black hair, eyelashes...short curly hair etc. so lets just say we slept fully clothed. The casino was okay except they didnt have enough balck jack tables open or poker. Only 1 5 dollar minimum blackjack table and 2 10 dollar minimum tables. Food was okay but honestly the brown and gold wall papered room we were in and wood chipped furniture plus the dirty bed sheets just ruined my whole stay. This coming from someone who has stayed in hotels for 50 bucks a night with neon pink walls and mustard colored bed clothes. I read bad reviews on this hotel but decided to give it a shot anyways and wish I didnt. I will never go back!

Room Tip: Pay attention to reviews from previous travellers

This hotel and casino is located at the junction of the Trans Canada Highway #1 and Highway #40, about one hour west of Calgary, Alberta and just over one half hour east of Banff National Park. Highway #40 leads you south to Alberta's beautiful Kananaskis Country.
The scenery nearby is awesom. The hotel provides excellent accomodations at a reasonable price for those wanting to enjoy Canada's national Rocky Mountain parks or to take advantage of some of the best ski hiils in the winter.
The hotel amenities include spacious rooms, dining rooms, bar and casino. Helicopter tours of the Rockies are available on site.

Not having reservations for a motel in Banff or Canmore in the middle of a long weekend , we had resigned ourselves to a late night drive into Calgary . At the last second we decided to try our luck here . The fellow at the front desk was very helpful , really slow , but helpful . We got one of the last rooms available . The room was huge and very clean . By the time we were all settled it was 2 a.m. We all had a wonderful sleep and headed down to the restaurant for brunch . Everyone was extremely friendly . We were just going to have the free continental breakfast , but seeing all the other food , we thought we would stay awhile and gorge ourselves . We ate enough we could head back to the Rockies and not have to worry about eating for hours !
This place was a very lovely surprise for us and added to the fun of our long weekend get away .

Pro:
Newer facility
Contemporary décor
In room fridges and safes
Nice bathrooms
High ceilings
Con:
3/5 for cleanliness
Staff issues or General management … no, that’s not right, but I don’t know what to call it so here’s the explanation.
Issue #1: We arrived on Saturday for a Monday wedding. Saturday night after spending time in Canmore we went back to the hotel to shower and have dinner with our little guy. The dinner buffet looked sad. There was nothing there that mildly peaked out interest so we ordered off the menu instead. Penne alfredo and a burger. These are not great culinary achievements, but the food was just blah! Our little guy liked the fries and the service was great. But other than that I would not recommend dining at the hotel. When the rest of the guests arrived on Sunday they all decided to attend the Sunday dinner buffet. We said we’d had the food and we’d be going into town for dinner instead. I wasn’t about to pay money to eat there again. Late Sunday I spoke to the parents of the groom, I guess the bride was in tears. The food was terrible and none of her guests enjoyed dinner the night before her wedding. They spoke to the chef and he assured her that the food would be outstanding for her wedding the next evening. Monday evening rolls around … the junior chef was in charge and dinner was OUTSTANDING! Mushroom chowder (OMG it was to die for), fish & chips, mashed potatoes with all the trimmings, carving station, chicken in a wonderful sauce and a few other goodies. The food was really exceptional. Asked what the huge difference was. Cost Savings. The hotel is struggling and to save money the ‘cheap out’ on the regular food. However when there’s a conference or wedding the food is really top notch and you pay for it. Problem: if you’re only there for a ‘regular’ stay, you’d never book your wedding or conference there with food quality like that. Suggestion: lose the buffet, trim down the large menu, and only make what you’re good at (or promote the junior chef instead of whoever is currently running the kitchen). The ‘cost savings’ is costing your customers.
Issue #2: After calling multiple times someone finally answered the phone. I needed to book a room from Saturday to Tuesday. Front desk says “Yes your total is $0.” $0?? “Who’s paying for it?” “Looks like the Bride and Groom (B&G) are.” After explaining that we were guests not the engaged couple she insisted the B&G were paying for the rooms. Fine. “Please send me that in writing.” No problem. She sends a confirmation email and right on it it says “Grand Total $0”. After talking to B&G, they are not paying for the rooms, but she insisted. Upon checkout I produce my confirmation with $0 on it and ask her who’s paying for the room. Uhh … no answer. We ended up paying full price for our stay. My issue: If the guest screws up the dates (4 nights instead of the 3 they needed), the guest would be charged for 4 nights. When the hotel screws up … The guest still pays. Nice. Would I stay there again? No. There are very nice properties much closer to Canmore with wonderful eating establishments. I’ll forfeit the 35 minute drive to this place for consistently good food and hotel staff that can admit mistakes and own up to them.

Room Tip: Mountain view is more expensive than Valley view.

Based on the reviews we were not expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised by the size of the rooms and the overall cleanliness of the hotel. The casino is small in comparison to many we have been in, but the staff were friendly and helpful.
