“Beautiful grounds....very dated rooms and beds....but a decent value overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2010

If spectacular hotel rooms, fluffy down comforters and pillows, and Aveda toiletries is your "bag," Los Gatos Lodge is not for you. The beds are not super comfortable, the pillows are flattened and tired, and the rooms are dated. The people, from the front desk workers to the housekeeping staff, however, are incredibly nice and accommodating, and the grounds of Los Gatos Lodge are spectacular. This hotel is a good value for the money, and we certainly enjoyed our stay!

This hotel is so tired. Walls are super thin. Can here talking in next room. Rooms not very clean. No hot water or water pressure in shower.Had to wash in bathroom sink which did have hot water. Too bad because the grounds are beautiful and location is good.

We came on a Thursday. It is very close to Highway 17 , but didn't hear the freeway noise at night very much at all. They have a restaurant on site that was moderately priced and the food was good. They have a continental breakfast in the morning serving muffins, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea. The dining area was in the lobby itself and had only two tables, so you would most likely have to eat in your room if they were busy. The rooms were of adequate size and where we were it had sliding glass windows that looked out to a nice size pool. The grounds are well-kept. The only downside was that where we stayed there was a window where an outside motel light poured in - you could practically read by it when you turned off the light at night. Recommend you bring eye shades. Otherwise really enjoyed the stay and would stay again in a heartbeat.

I stayed at the Los Gatos Lodge for 7 nights. It was a basic budget hotel. Room decor looked dated, and rooms had very thin walls. I could hear the guy in the next room snoring! But, for the money it represented excellent value for money. The bed was huge, shower was a bit rubbish, it had a fridge, TV, plenty of space, balcony over looking a lawn, friendly staff, esp the bar staff, cheap beer during happy hour £2 a pint, breakfast was just a bowl of cereal or fruit, but the meals in the restaurant were good, "free" wireless internet was slower than an ancient dial up modem, infact it was so bad I couldnt use it, the pool is more for kids and is about 6ft by 20ft. Loads of free car parking due to its location.

Location wise, its just outside of Los Gatos. Its about a 8minute walk over the freeway into the town. In the town, there are a few bars / pubs and several restaurants. The best value one i found was the Double D burger place which was good. There is a lovely creek trail which you can walk upto Lexington Resoviour.

All in all, for the money I enjoyed staying in Los Gatos Lodge. I was there on business and didnt require all the fancy thrills. Even though it was on the outskirts of town, i ventured into town most nights and it wasnt a problem for me, although walking over the freeway to get into town meant you couldnt quickly pop back to the hotel mid-day if you were out exploring. Therefore whilst I think the lodge is ideal for business, if I was on holiday with a partner I think I would have prefered somewhere more in the town, although id have to pay a lot more for it.

Booked the executive suite over the phone $199.00 per night. It was reasonably clean but very run down. Certainly was not worth the money.. But the worst part - I booked and stayed only one night and left early in the morning. When I recieved my Visa statement they had charged for two nights. I have called several times to speak to the manager and emailed - no response. I guess my next step is small claims court. The staff and management couldn't give a darn - so be careful.

Pros: We had a restful evening on our back patio watching the birds and squirrels play, staff was friendly and brought us extra items quickly as asked, breakfast was good and plentiful, right off the freeway but didn't hear traffic
Cons: shower drain was very slow, carpeting and room worn, suite was small, no fan ventilation in bathroom, could not stay connected to the free internet.

This motel might fit someones taste but not mine. If you don't like the chain hotel feel and want something very original, this would fit. We stayed here only for location, while visiting friends in Los Gatos. The price was right for about $100/night. The rooms were decorated in the 80s??? Peeling wall paper, old furnishings, I felt like I was at someones grandparents house. They hold weddings here, what an awful room to have to return to after the ceremony. There was a decent size balcony that looked out over a very large lawn area. The best I have to say is the wireless Internet worked in the room! I didn't think it was a bad motel, just not a nice place to stay.
