“Overdone rice, too soft and mushy. HUGE fish pieces.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

I think the most impressive part about this place is the size of the fish on its sushi. It is about twice as big than the ones that you normally get in Japan. I had 6 pieces and I was full. The fish is pretty fresh. The rice, however, was way overcooked, wet, and mushy. It's really a shame because if they made the rice better, this would've been a good sushi place, but the rice ruined the whole sushi experience for me.

If you don't mind mushy overcooked rice and crazy huge raw fish on it, then you might find this place an amazing deal. It is one of the lowest priced sushi places with good quality fresh fish in the area. However, if you are looking for a perfect sushi experience, I'd go else where.

No bathroom, no place to wash your hands, no alcohol is served and it is extremely small. If you are claustrophobic, you might not be able to bare staying inside the restaurant.

“Authentic sushi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Small, seating only 8 at a time around the counter.
It is definitely worth the wait outside
The rice is simply perfect; just the right amount of acidity and sweetness and served warm.
The fish is fresh. Everything made by hand right in front of your eyes.
Very nice green tea. No alcohol served
Prices very reasonable. Definitely a place to come back to.

“best sushi in Bay area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We love this place. it is somewhat of a hole in the wall, but the fish is the freshest in the bay area. Mr. Nobo the chef is a classically trained sushi chef and the quality of the fish is outstanding. Only down sides, is that there are only 8-10 chairs inside, so you have to time your arrival right at opening if you want to be sure you do not have to wait.

“Dreaming about being in Tokyo..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

Easily the best sushi I have had in the 'valley'. I have been travelling there since the early 90's and, more recently, I always try to sneak away for a quiet evening meal at 'Sushi on the Run'. The place is a bit of a squeeze but the sashimi is always tasty and the rolls are inventive and hearty.

“For true sushi fans who like exceptional fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Sushi on the run is an odd little place (8 seats only, no reservations, no sign up list, take out only when not busy, no alcohol license) but what makes it exceptional is the fish. Nobo Eguchi san, the owner is just really particular about the fish he buys and will sell. His yellow tail only comes from Japan and his cuts are what most restaurant would consider 'toro'. This is one of the only places where I will order sea urchin roe (uni) as elsewhere it is not as fresh and has a really strong unpleasant fishy taste. Nobo san's uni is like light salt-water custard.

His nigiri style, with very long cuts of fish, are what would typically be 2-3 pieces at other restaurants. As such his prices are pretty low.

If you have ever been to Tokyo's Tsukiji market and the surrounding little fish stalls, his place (and quality of fish) reminds me of that.

There is no alcohol license (too expensive for just an 8 seat restaurant) so bring your own. If you are stuck in line outside, just step in and ask to put your drinks in the fridge while you wait. The wait is worth it.
