We visited California Cafe over the weekend for a family celebration. Overall, the food was good but, given the price, it should have been even better. One item that I suggest avoiding is the crispy leek soup. I didn't discern any leek or toasty flavors. Also disappointing was the angel hair pasta and prawns. I found it very bland.
We all loved the scallop appetizers and bottom sirloin entree. The Caesar salad came with real anchovies and I didn't have to ask for them. Also very good.
They have a fun selection of mixed drinks.
I also have to knock them for slow service at the beginning of the meal. When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, yet we still waited 40 minutes before any actual food arrived. But once we got started, the pacing of the rest of the meal was fine.
