“Pleasant night stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

This hotel is in Korea Town, an urban neighborhood near downtown Los Angeles. I stayed here when I could not find a room downtown because of a huge convention. I was dubious, but it turned out well.

The valet parking is free. I checked in with no issues using my hotels.com voucher. The lobby is quaint. The room was small, but clean and everything worked. It is an old hotel, but it was well maintained. If you are looking for something luxurious, this is not the place. For the price it was very satisfactory.

When you walk into the JJ Grand, it looks clean, it's ornately decorated and over all beautiful. It is in the middle of Korea Town, so the language barrier is present, but usually it is not a big deal. We stayed there unfortunately for two weeks. My grandmother who lived a block over had booked it, thinking it was a great hotel by the looks of the inside. She wanted us close to her (and needed to be close to her at that time) and the hotel on Normandie we usually had stayed at is under renovations.
I'll start with a positive..the guys who were running the garage parking were very nice and courteous. That being said....
once you entered the hallways, there was an odor. There was also no vending machine nor ice machines.
The rooms are simple (nothing like the lobby!) which is fine. However the beds are extremely hard and wallpaper peeling all over. The bathroom left much to be desired. The shower and vanity are very dingy, shower head is awful. They only supplied you with two towels that have seen better days. If you wanted hand towels or wash cloths, you had to request. Sometimes after they would clean the room, the maid would only leave one towel.
The front desk was no help at all. This is where the language barrier is an issue. When we tried to talk to them, checking in and out and a few times in between, the only thing they responded with is a smile a nod and "yeah" no matter what we said or asked.
We do not usually spend a lot of time in the hotel when we are out in LA, usually a place to sleep, shower and keep our luggage. This hotel, I wanted to do none of the three. Even if its place to shower and sleep, I would expect it to be somewhat comfortable and a bit cleaner. What you get for the price you pay is ridiculous. I would strongly suggest staying else where!

The hotel has a nice loby. The rooms are run down but not bad. It is clean and the beds are Cumfey. I would stay here again. Like I said the rooms are run down but they are kept up. I don't do much in the room. Sleep and... Compared to the other rooms I saw in the price range this place is a go.

This Hotel is only Korean most employees only speak Korean. The Hotel is old and smelly, the beds are hard as a rock. There is no vending, no ice machine and no room service no restaurant after 9:00PM. I did not enjoy it at all. I was really mislead by Hot Wire, they rated it 3 stars, I'd say maybe 2.

We found this motel on the IPhone after finding the motel we had booked was in an unacceptable neighborhood. We were relieved to find it safe, valet parking indoors is free ($6 self park in the next door lot) quiet and clean. Less than a block from Wilshire. It is in Koreatown, and the staff is Asian, and we found everyone to be courteous and helpful. The valet out front keeps the area spotless and adds to the safety factor. The Metro, McDonalds, Subway, and a CVS are all in walking distance. It was intriguing to have this explained to me on a Korean neighborhood map! Didn't try the restaurant. After a few days in Vegas, we needed low budget, low tech food. I am guessing that renovation is in progress. The lobby is beautiful. The room was clean and in good repair, comfortable queen beds, has a large flat screen TV, the bathroom dated but serviceable - who cares, there was lots of hot water! We used the Metro to sight- see in LA to avoid driving and parking hassles. The rate was moderate for LA, and it met our needs for our visit.

This hotel is in Koreatown. Unless you're Korean, you'll feel like you're a foreigner staying at a hotel in South Korea.

The signs are bilingual. The hotel staff is Korean and terse with non-Koans. The food offerings are Korean (except the "American breakfast") and expensive. To top it all off, the servers in the cafe/bar will try to overcharge you.

But the room is serviceable.

So if you're just looking for a place to sleep that's close to downtown LA and is relatively safe, and don't need any on-site amenities, this place could work. Otherwise, avoid this place at all costs.
