Went there for a weekend away from the Bay Area on recommendation by a friend who thought I'd appreciate the 3rd St strip of walkable neighborhood, which I did; it's pretty convenient for driving destinations as well. Breakfasts were on the bottom edge of ok as long as you think of them as "free". If it were a breakfast joint in your own neighborhood, though, you'd go there once and then wonder how they stayed in business. The staff was genuinely nice but a bit airheaded the only time we needed them; the desk clerk couldn't tell us how to get to the Getty Center (which turned out to be more or less "leave hotel, turn left, turn right, you're there" - not too hard). The room was the big disappointment. This stuff probably looked ok when the place was initially remodelled, but most of the furniture and fixtures are somewhere between Target and Ikea in quality and are near the end of their brief lifespan - chipped surfaces, sagging shelf units, a floor lamp whose top was broken and just resting loosely on its fake-designer processed-wood base. Carpets were quite fashionable and quite astonishingly dirty and stained, there was an arc of coffee-splatter on the wall (which was covered in vinyl-like wallpaper and hence eminently cleanable, so why not clean it?), and the bathroom was in bad shape - a quarter-sized rusted gouge out of the tiny tub, sloppy paint job, really dirty sprinkler covers falling out of the dropped ceiling over the sink, shower curtain rod and towel shelves both loose and wobbly. My partner had stayed in a Marriot in Riverside the night before I flew down to meet him here; he commented that the bathroom fixtures there were identical, but not falling off the walls. And it was cleaner, too. Didn't really feel unbearably ripped off, but next trip we'll try someplace else.
