“Good hotel but very close to freeway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

I booked this hotel as I wanted somewhere close to UCLA. The hotel is circular in shape and the rooms are thus shaped like segments of a circle. The room was compact containing two double beds and was situated on the opposite side of the freeway. While this shielded us from the worst of the freeway noise this hotel is very close to the 405. If you are in anyway troubled by road noise then I suggest you look for a different hotel. Nevertheless, although we could hear some road noise it didn't bother us too much. We were out at an event all day and returned to the hotel very late and were all tired. We slept very well noise or no noise.

Because we were out all day we didn't sample any of the hotel services and amenities. However, the hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. I am not normally a fan of valet parking, but, you have no self park option here. Nevertheless, the valet parking staff were very efficient getting our car and provided a good service.

Overall we had a very good experience here and I would consider the hotel again if I needed to be close to UCLA.

Room Tip: Get a room on the opposite side to the freeway

Our rrom was well appointed and comfortable. The building design is a circular tower with each room forming a pie-shaped section of the circle making for an odd (but not unpleasant) shaped room.

Pros:
Very close to both UCLA and the Getty Center
Valet parking was free
The top floor restaurant had great views and good food

Cons:
We were in a North facing room and the highway noise was fairly high
House keeping was ... odd. Even though there were only 2 of us we never received enough face clothes (almost European in that respect!)
The minibar was inadequate to server as an in-room fridge
The ice machine was one floor below us.
The UCLA family rate was $50 higher than advertised

Would we come back?
Maybe. It wasn't terrible and we are not familiar with LA hotels so maybe this is just what one should expect in LA.

Room Tip: stay away from North, South or East-facing rooms as the highway 405 traffic noise may be excessive.

Dear ggfromsf

Thank you very much for all of your comments about our valet and restaurant.

I have shared your very helpful comments with our Executive Housekeeper, who has followed up with her staff. It sounds like you did not receive the proper amount of towels.

I will share your words with the entire team at the Hotel Angeleno. Hope to see you again soon.

We stayed here as a family of 4 (kids age 8 and 11) and had a room with two double beds. We initially had a problem with the first room due to a missing safe, so we were promptly moved to another room. However, our room faced the motorway and it was very noisy. The air con is even noiser, so it will help to kill the noise from the road :). The staff were friendly and helpful, the pool area was nice/modern and they had a decent gym. Lovely fireplace in the evening.

Our main issue was the size of the room. It was tiny for 4 people - the beds were double (not queen) so sharing for 2 tall adults was a little uncomfortable. Free wine in the afternoon for an hour was a nice touch however, as was the free valet parking. The hotel itself was overall good.

Food prizes were high (but they are in most hotels), so we ate out in Bentwood. As the hotel is just off Sunset Boulevard - you can drive it all the way down to Hollywood, or in the other direction down to the Pacific Highway. It is next to Bel Air / Beverly Hills, so a very nice residential area. If only it was a little further away from the busy motorway it would have been perfect. But I suspect the good price is due to the fact that it is near such a busy road.

Room Tip: Try to get a high room away from the motorway...

I simply had to write about the Angeleno once again. It always delights us to return to the Angeleno where we have for many years been warmly welcomed and catered to by Carlos as we drive up to the entrance. Edith at the front desk is just as welcoming and always makes us feel like such valued customers. She is extremely helpful and works to make our stay the best it can be. On our latest visit everything was up to the usual high standards and we again thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We especially enjoy the breakfasts at West where Segundo has been more than helpful and gracious to us. The whole experience at the Angeleno is warm, friendly, and a pleasure. We are looking forward to visiting again soon.

We were visiting LA for 2 nights as part of a longer CA trip. This hotel was by far the nicest place we stayed on our vacation. It is beautifully decorated and very upscale. Convenient to UCLA and the Getty. And easy access to the highway to go everywhere else. (the construction nearby makes it a bit confusing to access the hotel, but once you figure it out, that is not a problem.)
When we checked in, the room we were assigned smelled like smoke. I called the front desk and they immediately found another room for us and came up to meet us to make the move. We ended up with a room on the freeway side (where there is lots of construction). I was a bit concerned, but with the fan on, the noise really wasn't bad at all. I am a light sleeper and slept very well. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The toiletries are great quality. The space is quite peaceful and inviting.
We have had issues with valet parking at other hotels, but we were pleasantly surprised at HA. The service was always quick and they were extremely nice.

We were visiting Calif. and looking for a great location to stay for the 1st. Part of our trip. My business took me to UCLA for a presentation and the folks there suggested the Hotel. What. Surprise when we drove up and went to check in. The staff was very pleasant and helpful making check-in quick and easy. The room had very recently been updated and was very clean and inviting. One small issue is the air conditioning unit being a bit loud at times but not to the point of a real bother. Breakfast on the top floor was very nice with a great view. Elijah was the person that made our phone reservation...what an outstanding person...very helpful and took feat care to meet all our needs. All the staff must have come from the same school...they were pleasant and very helpful.
If our travel plans take us back to Southern Calif we would choose this property again...almost forgot they offer free valet parking...what a great perk!
