My wife and I stayed at Magic Castle with our 7 year old son over the weekend and made a visit to Universal Studios ( 10 minutes away ). The Suite we stayed in was ok and the hotels rooms seemed just ok but they make up for the lack of upgrades in excellent customer service and location. They are pretty central to most areas in Hollywood and close to many attractions. The Japanes restaurant which is affiliated with the hotel on top of the hill has an amazing view and beautiful interior and the food and service is somewhat slow but ok.

  • Liked — Customer Service
  • Disliked — Not many upgrades for the rooms or furniture

I stayed at The Magic Castle Hotel for two nights the week of August 13th, 2006. The hotel room was expansive, with a large bedroom, a much larger living area equipped with a sleeper sofa and dining table, and a full kitchen. The hotel courtyard features a beautiful, clean pool, which if I had more time I would have loved to enjoy. The location is great, near Hollywood attractions and providing easy access to other parts of L.A. The greatest perk is, of course, the ability to visit The Magic Castle for dinner and entertainment, and I recommend the experience to everyone.

The finest quality of The Magic Castle Hotel, even with the advantages described above, is the staff. Friendly and helpful, they introduce themselves with a smile and a complementary cold, crisp sparkling juice served in a champagne glass. No question was left unanswered, whether about the room, activities in the area, transportation, directions... I would particularly like to thank Gretchen Crookes, the Guest Services Manager, for doing everything possible to make my stay enjoyable short of accompanying me around town!

I highly recommend The Magic Castle Hotel to one and all planning a trip to Los Angeles.

We spent three nights at the Magic Castle Hotel in July. I had read reviews about how good the staff is, and these reviews are no exaggeration. We were greeted with soft drinks in wine glasses and given popsicles at the swimming pool. The front desk gave us great advice on tours and restaurants and made reservations for us. They were very knowledgeable about the area. The quickly helped us with anything we needed. We had one meal at the Magic Castle Club. It was a very unique experience that was quite enjoyable. The hotel is well located. We were able to walk to Hollywood Boulevard for tours and sight seeing. The fee for parking a car was more reasonable than other hotels in the area. We never had problems finding a parking place, and the parking lot was very secure. The rooms are not new, but they are well maintained. We had a great deal of room, and the kitchen was very convenient. The hotel was very charming and had a lot of character.

  • Liked — Great staff and location. Parking was very reasonable.
  • Disliked — Bedroom was a little warm
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask the advice of the staff for tours and sights to see. They are very knowledgeable.

We stayed in the one bedroom suite ( room 105) for 3 nights last week. Our family of 4 included mom, dad, daughter 13 and son 10. The location of the hotel was great for walking to the majority of the Hollywood sights (Chinese Theatre, Kodak, Starline Tours, El Capitan theatre, Disney Soda Fountain, and the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center). The room had more than enough space and was clean and provided all the necessary amenities. The staff was extremely helpful and we enjoyed the breakfast every morning sitting at the tables by the pool. Other users mentioned the bathrooms as an area of concern, so I was a bit worried. However in our room, there were only two specific issues: there was no working extractor fan which probably caused some of the peeling paint on the ceiling over the shower and the towel rack that they chose was far too flimsy for the weight of the towels and was begining to come loose from the wall. But that is it!! The remainder of the room was very nicely decorated to modern standards for a boutique hotel.

We would stay here again.

My son and I stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel during a vacation to the LA area. The hotel is small but in a great location, just two blocks from Hollywood Blvd. One of the best parts was its association with the Magic Castle. Minors can't get into the Castle to see the performances except on weekend brunches and unless you are with a member. The only exception is for those staying at the hotel. Since my son is a magic buff, that was a big attraction of staying there.
However, we were pleasantly surprised with just about everything. Most impressive was the staff which was so incredibly friendly and helpful. They were never overbearing but always willing to help out.
The rooms were decent, but not overly impressive. They had everything we needed. I was a little taken aback by the carpets, which looked a little worn, but half-way through our stay, they were being replaced. The beds were very comfy while the bathrooms were a little tired, but still very functional and clean.
Every morning there was a continental breakfast served in the small lobby. I ususally took my food out to the pool-side tables and sat there. The pool was a great feature; it wasn't too big but was great for cooling off. My only complaint was one night, at about 2 a.m., some drunks jumped in and were a little noisy. But that was an isolated occurence.
If you're there on vacation, you can easily walk to Hollywood Blvd and all the attractions there. As well, the hotel next door -- which I wouldn't suggest you stay at -- is where Janis Joplin was found dead.
Overall, I'd go back to this hotel in a minute, based largely on the staff.
Great job
