We spent three nights at the Magic Castle Hotel in July. I had read reviews about how good the staff is, and these reviews are no exaggeration. We were greeted with soft drinks in wine glasses and given popsicles at the swimming pool. The front desk gave us great advice on tours and restaurants and made reservations for us. They were very knowledgeable about the area. The quickly helped us with anything we needed. We had one meal at the Magic Castle Club. It was a very unique experience that was quite enjoyable. The hotel is well located. We were able to walk to Hollywood Boulevard for tours and sight seeing. The fee for parking a car was more reasonable than other hotels in the area. We never had problems finding a parking place, and the parking lot was very secure. The rooms are not new, but they are well maintained. We had a great deal of room, and the kitchen was very convenient. The hotel was very charming and had a lot of character.

  • Liked — Great staff and location. Parking was very reasonable.
  • Disliked — Bedroom was a little warm
  • Tips/Secrets: — Ask the advice of the staff for tours and sights to see. They are very knowledgeable.

We stayed in the one bedroom suite ( room 105) for 3 nights last week. Our family of 4 included mom, dad, daughter 13 and son 10. The location of the hotel was great for walking to the majority of the Hollywood sights (Chinese Theatre, Kodak, Starline Tours, El Capitan theatre, Disney Soda Fountain, and the Hollywood and Highland Shopping Center). The room had more than enough space and was clean and provided all the necessary amenities. The staff was extremely helpful and we enjoyed the breakfast every morning sitting at the tables by the pool. Other users mentioned the bathrooms as an area of concern, so I was a bit worried. However in our room, there were only two specific issues: there was no working extractor fan which probably caused some of the peeling paint on the ceiling over the shower and the towel rack that they chose was far too flimsy for the weight of the towels and was begining to come loose from the wall. But that is it!! The remainder of the room was very nicely decorated to modern standards for a boutique hotel.

We would stay here again.

My son and I stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel during a vacation to the LA area. The hotel is small but in a great location, just two blocks from Hollywood Blvd. One of the best parts was its association with the Magic Castle. Minors can't get into the Castle to see the performances except on weekend brunches and unless you are with a member. The only exception is for those staying at the hotel. Since my son is a magic buff, that was a big attraction of staying there.
However, we were pleasantly surprised with just about everything. Most impressive was the staff which was so incredibly friendly and helpful. They were never overbearing but always willing to help out.
The rooms were decent, but not overly impressive. They had everything we needed. I was a little taken aback by the carpets, which looked a little worn, but half-way through our stay, they were being replaced. The beds were very comfy while the bathrooms were a little tired, but still very functional and clean.
Every morning there was a continental breakfast served in the small lobby. I ususally took my food out to the pool-side tables and sat there. The pool was a great feature; it wasn't too big but was great for cooling off. My only complaint was one night, at about 2 a.m., some drunks jumped in and were a little noisy. But that was an isolated occurence.
If you're there on vacation, you can easily walk to Hollywood Blvd and all the attractions there. As well, the hotel next door -- which I wouldn't suggest you stay at -- is where Janis Joplin was found dead.
Overall, I'd go back to this hotel in a minute, based largely on the staff.
Great job

My family of 4 recently stayed in a refurbished 1 BR suite for 8 nights. Our family includes 2 young teenagers. The hotel is a wonderful central location for LA and surrounding areas including Walk of Fame and Chinese Theater, beaches, Disney, Universal, Dodger game, etc.. The refurbished suite provided excellent space for the 4 of us to spread out and either watch TV in the BR and living room or read the morning newspaper at the the kitchen table. The continental breakfast included fresh croissants, scones, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. The beds, pillows and bathroom towels were very comfortable especially after a hot, sandy day at the beach. The small pool was refreshing. Upon arrival, our room included treats for the kids and a bottle of Pinot. The staff also provided a roll away bed. The underground secure parking was a welcome convenience for only $8/night. We felt very safe and secure at this location.
The staff on all shifts were very nice and accomodating with driving directions and a very welcome good morning or afternoon! A special thank you to Gretchen, Nick and Darren for their hospitality. During our stay, I viewed several hotels considered on Trip Advisor and would honestly say that my choice was the correct one. I would highly recommend this hotel for the price and location.

  • Liked — Location, price, comfort of beds, space

We stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel for four nights in early August, and we really enjoyed this hotel. Everyone who works in the hotel is very friendly and helpful, especially with providing recommendations on places to eat and helping out with directions.

We stayed in a studio room and the furniture was renovated, but the carpet was not. The bed was large and comfortable. The hotel is a few blocks from all the Hollywood attractions like Kodak Theatre, etc. The breakfast is basic and pretty good. We liked the free DVD rentals a lot. There is a fridge in the studio.

There was that there was a lot of noise the first two nights from other hotel guests next door. The walls are very thin. There were some cracks in the wall. Also, the shower temperature was not totally consistent. The parking garage is good but small, and the spaces are very tight. We did not use the wireless internet, so we cannot comment on it. There is an internet kiosk that is 20 cents/minute if you do not have a laptop.

If you are looking for a posh and luxurious experience, this is not the hotel for you. However, if you are looking for great value and a comfortable experience, and don't plan on being on your room all day, Magic Castle is a good fit.
