My husband, 2-year old son and I went to LA last weekend to visit my sister-in-law, and we stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel overnight, based on the recommendations I had read on this site. I was very pleased to find we agreed with the very positive comments. Our room was spacious, tidy, and well-equipped (e.g., kitchen has eat-in area with table/chairs for 4 and comes with dishes, glasses, dishwashing soap; plenty of towels; 2 plush bathrobes), and with the pull-out couch in the living room, we were able to let our son go to sleep early in the bedroom while my husband and I stayed up watching television and relaxing in the living room. The staff was warm, helpful, and accomodating. When we called to ask for recommendations on take-out/delivery in the area, they brought menus to our room. We later called to inquire about drink vending machines, and sodas were brought to our door. The following morning, we found the continental breakfast options to be ample, and of much better quality than you find at many chain hotels.
The only glitch we encountered was a lapse in hot water, which we were told was a problem the hotel was having, and that was remedied within a few hours. I should also note that travelers keep in mind that this is a 2-star hotel--there won't be a *wow* factor upon entering the hotel, and there are certain signs of use (e.g., bleach stain on the sofa, chipped pain on the molding) that you wouldn't encounter at, say, a Ritz Carlton. But bearing that in mind, I felt the hotel was a very good value and the excellent customer service can't be beaten--we would certainly stay there again the next time we are in town.
