“Loved, Loved, LOVED IT - YOU HAVE TO STAY HERE!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

After countless hours of reading reviews on Trip Advisor, I felt that I couldn't go past what sounded like an amazing hotel. Despite being told by a relative who has lived in LA that the area was 'dodgy' I'm so glad I didn't listen to them, and decided to stay here. We stayed for 5 nights in September for the first leg of our trip, and it more than met my expectations in so many ways. Upon arrival, we all (even my two daughters aged 5 and 8) were greeted with a very welcome, cool drink in cute 'champagne' glasses - nice touch. I had been quite ill on the flight over, and I was hoping for an easy check in, but unfortunately my travel agent had not booked extra nights that I had asked for, and as such we were not booked in for the first 3 nights of our 5 night booking. I was horrified, and was sure that this would be a big problem, but Gabby handled the situation with grace and immediately upgraded us to room 204, which was a 1 bedroom suite on the first floor with a balcony overlooking the pool area.

Yes - there are no evelators, but so what!!! The whole 'Melrose Place' feel with the pool in the centre was amazing, and the kids (and I) thoroughly enjoyed the seemingly endless supply of free snacks - great value. Within 2 minutes of us getting to our room, Zee arrived with some honey and chamomile tea to 'sooth my stomach' which was greatly appreciated!! The lending of the train tickets, the friendly smiles from ALL staff, the brilliant location - all of this added up to a fabulous stay, which also lead to tears from my girls when we had to leave (even though reception provided us with a shopping bag full of snacks for us for our trip to Vegas in the car).

Another highlight was when I left some washing in the washing machine whilst we went out, we came back to beautifully folded and hung up clothing. What hotel does that??? Everyone we dealt with was outstanding, the room was a huge one bedroom apartment, and had everything we could ask for, including a large fully size kitchen. It was so nice to finally meet Darren the hotel manager, and he also lived up to all expectations, as he seemed genuinely interested in me and my family, and always took the time to chat to all the guests.

Thank you all for making our stay truly memorable, and I have recommended you to so many people as our stay was absolutely the highlight of our trip. There was nothing I would change about our stay, as every little detail was taken care of, and it was a brilliant start to our trip - thanks to all/

Room Tip: Pay the extra to have a balcony room - room 204 was perfect!!

“Fantastic stay at a fantastic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

Fantastic hotel, outstanding staff, perfect retreat in the middle of a crazy place. We stayed for a week, including Christmas Day and every single person we came into contact with at Magic Castle Hotel went out of their way to make our stay memorable. From an early check in after a 26 hour flight from Australia to allowing us to get a real Christmas tree in our room for our children, nothing was ever too much trouble. Front desk staff were always friendly and greeted us on our return from a days adventures and Lisa and Joslin showed a genuine interest in our daily activities. We were in Room 211 upstairs overlooking the pool and it was great. There is some noise from adjoining rooms but this certainly didn't hinder our activities or sleep. Breakfast was great and we loved the Vegemite! Location was perfect for Hollywood Boulevard and Magic Castle and it was great to be able to walk to most places. When we had a problem with a tour company the staff at Magic Castle Hotel were helpful and supportive. Thank you Magic Castle Hotel for making our first trip to LA so wonderful. We will tell everyone we know how great it was and if we ever return to LA we know exactly where we will stay!

“Great staff and Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Motivated by the reviews on tripadvisor, we booked the hotel and had high expectations.
The hotel room we got (Room #119) was facing Franklin Blvd. which made it very noisy from the start. However, the noise problem was enforced by people staying one floor above. This should not be a normal situation but those people seemed to be running through the room for hours with heavy steps...creating great noise in our room.
The room itself is a fair value. It is not new but everything is in workable condition and the bed is very comfortable. The location of the hotel is great. 5 minutes to the Walk of fame... Madame Trussards, Kodak heater, Chinese theatre all reachable with an easy walk. Also the hotel provides a secure free parking which is great. Furthermore, you have PVC pharmacy and Fresh 'n Easy Supermarket are close if you need essentials...which come in handy. With the full kitchen in the hotel room.

Apart from the noise, the hotel is very neat. The staff is great. Very helpful and trying to make everything right.

The 3 stars are for room 119. If you get another room on the inside, you should be fine. Location and staff are 5 stars. If the room would be more quiet than what've had, this is a clear 5 stars.

Room Tip: Do not choose #119 or #219

“The Best Hotel we have ever stayed in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We were told by friends who had just returned from LA that we had to stay in this hotel. We were so happy we took their advise. The staff make you feel so special you almost feel like you are the only people staying in the hotel. I cold not fault the room in any way. It had been recently renovated and was very clean. There was even a welcome card and some goodies on the table for us on arrival. We asked the staff if we had access to a washing machine there. They told us to bring the washing to reception and they would do it for us. Within 1 1/2 hours they bought it back to the room, washed, dried, ironed and folded. We were speechless! The free snacks and included breakfast makes it all the more special. It is walking distance from Hollywood boulevard. Anyone going to LA must seriously consider staying here.

“Humble looking hotel but amazing service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

We had always wondered after looking at the pictures of the hotel in tripadvisor, why is the hotel rated number 1 out of 301 hotels in LA? We read about the free snacks, wifi, good service and not that the price is cheap. We decided to take a chance and try it out.

We were not disappointed. From the moment we set foot on the property, the nice welcome drink, the nice genuine smile of every staff that we met and the cookies at the reception, we knew the answer.

The property looks nicer than on pictures and we are very happy with the size of our one bedroom apartment. The negative parts of our stay are the stair case leading up to our room 201, but no problem with the luggage with help from the staff, and the traffic noise (as our room is by the road) and the thin wall such that we could from our bedroom, hear people talking at their balcony.

The property is clean, very convenient and short walk to Hollywood boulevard (we are people that do not like to have to walk very far to our destination). The most attractive part of the hotel is the eat as much as you like snacks and drinks! We would tick the snacks and drinks that we like to have at end of each day and the staff will go into their store and come back with all our requests in a big black plastic bag and always with a nice smile which make us feel at ease (we were actually quite embarrassed being such gluttons and would expect to see impatient looks on their faces).

Thank you to all the staff for the exceptional service and Shawn for good recommendation of the activities, especially telling us about the Hollywood Christmas parade that day so that we could catch it on time and Lisa for her kind drawing of the map of the area near the hotel and dining recommendation.

Room Tip: Get a room far from the road. We do not have much choice as we want two double beds in the bedroom.
