“Very good Hotel for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

I stayed here for just one night on arrival in US from Australia. We found this an excellent hotel for our family of 5. The two bedroom room + living room with fold out bed was excellent for us with our 3 young teenage kids. The location is excellent and the staff are very helpful. There are free snacks and cool drinks available at reception which was a great hit with the kids. The room was large, offered free wifi, full kitchen and large living area. I highly recommend this hotel for families. There is also parking available at $11 a day.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building rather than the annex

After our stay in a fabulous 5 star hotel suite in Las Vegas, we really noticed the drop in standards with our stay in this hotel. I am still confused on what's going on with everybody's review? This hotel is number 1 on Tripadvisor but it didn't appear number one to us. We have got high respect for Tripadvisor and that was one of the reasons why we booked this hotel.

I am not saying it was all bad. Service was outstanding. Staff were helpful and hotel was very thoughtful by serving afternoon teas and refreshments. Location was great - walking distance to Hollywood Boulevard. Also, our friends from LA were impressed when they heard we were booked in Magic Castle. Locals really think highly of this place which was a good.

The above good points enumerated above were endearing but the room did not appear appealing to us at all which was the reason why we were there in the first place. Room looked tired and needed much work to be done. Bed was also not great. You could also hear your next door neighbour's voice which was not good and a bit annoying really.

Sad to say, this is one of our least favourite hotels.

HotelManager, General Manager at Magic Castle Hotel, responded to this review, December 12, 2012
Dear KC Wilson_NZ,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of our experience at Magic Castle Hotel. I’m glad that you enjoyed your stay in a 5-star hotel in Las Vegas. We are not a 5-Star hotel. We are an independently owned small hotel with mostly very large suites. Our small size is usually to our guests’ advantage. We are able to respond to guests in a way that most hotels can’t...or don’t.

You mentioned that our staff was “outstanding”, yet we still only earned the very lowest score one could give. It’s important for TripAdvisor readers who are considering staying with us to have a clear idea of what to expect. We are family friendly. The building was built in the 1950s and is classic old Hollywood. The building surrounds our heated pool. Most of the rooms are either One or Two Bedroom Suites. These suites include a full kitchen, dining area, living room with pull-out sofa, and a separate bedroom (or two). We include a lot with the rate including Continental Breakfast, Wifi, over 40 free snack items available 24 hours a day, Turndown Service each night, Gym Access, Movies, and more. We have an amazing housekeeping staff who keep our rooms and the facility extremely clean. Our front desk staff are here to make our guests’ stay special and memorable. We want kids to love it too. We want the hotel stay to be a part of peoples’ memories, not just the place they slept.

It’s true, we’re not a Las Vegas 5-Star hotel…and we know it. What we do is special and unique.

Magic Castle Hotel is not for everyone. We’re definitely different than most hotels.

I sincerely appreciate your comments. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss.

I would love to welcome you back.

Sincerely,
Darren Ross

Our family group of 13 stayed here in Oct12. 1 family was located on the lower level near reception, fabulous family room. Refurbished not long ago. Others of the group were given rooms "at the top of the hill" 2 of these rooms were ok but the one we got was in a terrible state of disrepair ie carpet very tatty on the joins & the bench in the kitchenette area, the chip board was disintergrating. Our understanding is that the hotel managers these rooms for owners.Hopefully they advised the owner of ours to do some major maintenance. But on saying that the staff did shift us to another room which was much better. The location of the hotel is GREAT & the staff were TERRIFIC, special thanks to Marcus who had handled our booking.Everyone enjoyed the free snacks/drinks/videos. We would stay at this hotel again.Sorry to say we didnt get to experience the Magic show next door or the Japanese restaurant next time we will..
Everyone enjoyed tg

Room Tip: if given the "up the hill" rooms check it out first. Keeping in mind the view is awesome...

There's not much that I haven't already said in the review I left in March. The service at Magic Castle can't be beat, the location is amazing. If you've just flown in from a long flight this is the place to stay, the staff will really look after you! We were upgraded to a one bedroom suite while we were there, so spacious, so much room. The Apple Cider is amazing too!

Our family of 5 stayed at the Magic Castle in September. What a wonderful hotel!! We had a two bedroom room with loads of space, a queen in one room, double in another and a fold out in the lounge. We found the staff amazing, helpful and polite!! Our kids enjoyed the free snacks & drinks from reception and the pool was great. Only issue we had was they purchased tickets for us for a Dodgers game through a third party and as we had not had time to research, found out that we paid over $180 extra for the tickets when we got to the game, BUT as soon as we disscused the issue with the manager he was very apologetic and refunded the differance off our final bill!! They also provided Vegimite with breakfast. We would higly reccomand this hotel for families.

Room Tip: We had a first floor room at rear of the hotel, great location and quiet.

Just got back from a 6 night stay at the Magic Castle Hotel in Hollywood. We had two rooms: A One Bedroom and two queen bedroom. Both on the ground floor. Our group had two Grandmas, Two Thirty somethings, and two boys 6 and 9. The hotel staff was top notch. Very friendly and always had a answer to my questions. The check-in process was quick and easy. The location of the hotel is a short walk away from the center of the Hollywood Blvd attractions (which is like a scaled down version of Times square). Not far from Universal Studios and City walk which was nice. Griffith Park is less than a 5 minute drive. Disneyland was about 40 minute drive with no traffic. We did do the Sunday brunch next door at the Magic Castle and that was pretty neat. Pricey, but it was something different to see. Truthfully everything seemed pricey in Southern California.

Overall I was happy with our stay. The only downside I would say is that the road traffic is very loud. We were on the front end of the hotel and I could hear it all night. For the record I am a light sleeper. If you are too try and get a room in the back of the hotel away from the road. I could also hear very clearly people walking above us. But these were not deal breakers just know going into your stay that these issue's exist.

If your going to Hollywood I believe this is a great location, especially if you have a car. The staff is great and the rooms a good size. I thought the price for the rooms was very fair for a city hotel. I am a travel agent and I would strongly recommend this hotel to my clients.

Room Tip: The hotel is in a shape of horseshoe. Ask for a quiet room furtherest away from the road. Which woul...

We stayed at the Magic Castle Hotel during the first leg of our trip to California. As I had read lukewarm (to say the least) reviews about their single rooms I opted for a one-bedroom suite; reservation was swift and right from the moment of our arrival in LA we found out that the reviews here were more than accurate: we were welcomed by a very corteous, friendly and professional staff (Gabriela was the one in charge when we checked-in) and with complimentary drinks that tasted like heaven after a very long flight into LA.

Like I said, even if the reviews were enthusiastic I knew this was not a top-end hotel so I had what I thought were realistic expectations about the place. Well, I must say those expectations were highly exceeded as soon as we opened the door to our suite: recently renovated, the room boasted two flatscreen TVs, a huge, new bed, functional albeit tasteful furniture, a new kitchen, a separate and very spacious living room, a terrace directly facing the very popular hotel pool and a perfectly OK toilet (the sole part that was not new). Terrific, really, and not too different to what you'd find in 4 or 5 star properties elsewhere.

Besides, the hotel featured a daily breakfast with fresh pastries and fruit, as well as several beverages, and that is hard to come by in the US where most hotels do not include breakfast. Also, parking was a laughable 10 dollar per night and all minibar items were free. Really, given how cheap some properties can be sometimes, this features were truly welcome, esp. given that the hotel rates were very reasonable.

Staff, like I wrote, was also superb, always dealing with our various requests with a smile and very efficient. Housekeeping service was also great.

To sum up, I am happy to write that the reviews here were very accurate. This hotel offers sensational value for money, so I would definitely recommend it.

(Minor) downsides:

-Our room had been renovated, but the whole hotel could definitely use a lick of paint since a renovation would make it even more attractive.
-Location: the hotel's location is perfect to explore Hollywood. Problem is we thought Hollywood sucks, but this is of course not the Magic Castle's fault.

Room Tip: Opt for the one or two-bedroom suites.
