I stayed at thsi hotel in May of 2004. This is not the first time I have stayed at this hotel. The first time was in October 2003. I do not think that anything has been done to improve the lighting in the room. The lamps by the bed and desk barely give off enough light to see. The light over the vanity area was so bad it was all I could do to see how to brush my teeth or comb my hair. Also you had to keep the door to where the toilet and tub/shower are propped open with the waste basket so the door would not close on you. This area is VERY small.
The room does come with a nice size refrigerator and some of the larger rooms come wtih a microwave. There is a Ralph's supermarket wthin walking distance of the hotel.
In addition to this. The room needs to be updated with new furniture. Also you have to really like trains since the tracks are within 1 block of the hotel and it is the main line which means you will hear the trains from 5:30 a.m. to midnight.
The staff is very friendly and did try to make my stay as comfortable as possible since I was staying for a week.
There are two places to eat that are close by. IHOP a few blocks from the hotel on Devonshire and also The Country Deli at Devonshire and Lassen.
