This was our first stop with a Virgin Fly-drive holiday booked in the UK. We normally stay in self-catering apartments or villas, so staying in a hotel was a new experience for us as a family. The hotel gives a good first impression, with a nice fountain out the front, and a lobby area with comfy sofas.
We were 'upgraded' to a room in the lanaii overlooking the pool. It was a nice room with a small balcony, but was quite small for the 4 of us. There was no fridge, and the bedside light did not work. Noone fixed it even after asking twice. Also, shock horror, there was no kettle to make a cup of tea! Just a coffee machine. You could not use this to make tea. My husband managed to get hot water from the cafe located near the reception.
We ate in the restaurant on the first night, but I thought it over-priced and very average quality. The staff were generally polite and helpful, but we were not shown where our room was when we first arrived and consequently missed our way and had to drag our suitcases up stairs, not pleasant after 11 hour flight and driving from the airport through LA!
The pool area was pleasant with plenty of towels to use. It was however very deep, which could be dangerous for young children. Also the whirlpool was really hot, again a bit dangerous for very small kids.
The best thing about this hotel by far is its proximity to Universal and Citywalk. Also the concierge was extremly helpful when we asked about the best trips in Hollywood.
