“Good Price, Close to transportation and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Stayed here for just one night but didn't have ANY complaints. Rooms are nice, free continental breakfast in the morning, and coffee all day if you so desire; this is on top of the microwave and refrigerator in the room. For all the amenities, this is a great place for the price. The area is certainly not the best but I heard no noise from the outside and its within walking distance to the Metro line which is a plus. I do recommend bringing a printout of your reservation confirmation as they didn't have mine in the system but I had no issues with them. The staff was super friendly.

We stayed at this hotel for Anime Expo 2012, and have booked to stay for 2013. The hotel is close to everything downtown. We even walked to and from the Convention Center. What's great is that it has all the amenities without a high price. A fridge, a microwave, free wi-fi and breakfast. It is a really good place to stay for multiple days because of this. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. The parking was tight at night, but they made sure we all fit and for a nominal fee. No parking on streets or $40 for valet somewhere else. The pool is well maintained and was a pleasant surprise. Of course it's not a high end luxury hotel, but you get well above what you pay for. Will stay here again and again.

This place had 4" cockroaches running rampant on the ground floor! In all fairness, the creatures did get smaller in the higher level floors. The staff was very apologetic and accommodating and chalked it up to "bad luck." I would have immediately left the premises for another hotel, but I had arrived very late, was exhausted, and had to be at a medical appointment early the next morning so I took my chances. It took multiple attempts to find a room with no obvious inhabitants, but I dreamed of bugs all night. Another behemoth made an appearance in the breakfast room and was ceremoniously smashed by another guest. The breakfast attendant made no comments as she swept up the remains without missing a beat. If it weren't for the "locals" this would have been a pleasant stay, but that's just too "eco-friendly" for me!

This hotel is good in that it has included services which other hotels don't have or if they do they are with charge: Wi-Fi, breakfast, refrigerator, microwave, coffee-machine in the room and coffee at the lobby.
The housekeeping is good.
There are icemakers in each floor but they either don't work well or maybe guests don't know how to use it and they get stuck (if it's the guests there should be a warning sign).
The attention at the front desk is very good.
There should be a way that disabled people with a certificate from other countries can use the disabled parking space without suffering penalties. This was an issue for my wife in almost every place, not this hotel only.
The breakfast is good but there is very little room for people to sit.
There is a sign in the bathrooms that seems offensive, a price list for towels, sheets, pillows and other elements if the guests decide to "take" them. Does it imply that each guest is a potential thief? Well, if they want to sell hotel merchandise, they might as well renew their stock and put nice, new towels and stuff, with the hotel's name on it, I don't think anyone would like to steal or buy the current towels. That way we honest guests will benefit, too.
The location is good for access to different places, but the surroundings are not very friendly. There is a nice Latin bakery one block away. But we tried to go to a nearby mall and we were afraid to get out of the car.
Overall it was a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Some have balconies, if you are interested in that. The inner rooms looking to the pool or parking a...

I must admit that after reading some prior reviews on this site about this hotel, I was a bit uneasy about checking in, but we decided to go ahead and give them a chance, as the room rate was priced at what we were looking for, to stay just one night. When we arrived, the front desk clerk was very professional, and accommodated my request to change to a double bedded room with no problem. Our room was comfortable and clean. No smells, bugs or stains that I had read about. The bedding was very comfortable, and the room has all the basic amenities you need, like an in-room coffee pot, a safe, new flat screen tv, and better than average bath amenities. We did have a rowdy, loud bunch in the room across the hall - but I called the front desk to let them know, and they had them quieted down within ten minutes
You also get free wi-fi and a decent hot breakfast, which made everyone happy. Give them a chance, I think they have really tried to improve on whatever problems they may have had before.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor - stay away from the first floor.

The room has been renovated decently but the bathroom is still outdated and needs a good renovation. The breakfast room can only house 10pax but there are about 20 people in there like a can of sardines every morning. The plus side is that WIFI is free and the bed is comfortable but the area is a really shady one with a lot of hobos within the proximity of the hotel but I guess it's just how LA is.

I am from developing country. I usually get happy with very little. But this hotel is really bad.

Room: TV doesn't work. No one fixed TV in 6 days of our stay. Carpet is dirty. Comforter has all its cotton on one side.

Hotel: Entire hotel stinks of something I cannot put fingers on.

Neighborhood: If you are trying to save money by staying here, you will end up paying lot more for cab fares. The neighborhood is really really bad. I walked one day (7.30pm) and I had a group of men blow pot smoke on my face. I took bus another day (8pm) and the bus driver told me 'be safe mam'. Thats when I started taking cab for as little as 1 mile distance. One of the worst neighborhoods of LA downtown. I ended up paying lot more in cab fares. I didn't save anything. There are men standing in the sidewalks in groups all day long doing nothing.

Service: Very dishonest people. I once heard the reception desk telling a new customer on phone 'there are no homeless people around here'. The whole neighborhood is surrounded by homeless people.

I asked for a cab, they called a expensive transport service. If you stay here, make sure you tell them, you need a yellow cab and not some expensive transportation service. Hotel Solaire most probably is getting some commission out of it.

None of the house keeping speaks English. I had to use hand gestures to tell one of the house keeping that we need our room cleaned. Two days they didn't even show up.
