My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night between flights home from Tahiti.
I read the mixed reviews but got what I thought was a very fair price online so decided to try it. I was very happy we did.
We landed at LAX and waited approximately 15 to 20 minutes for the free shuttle to pick us up. We arrived at the hotel and found check-in to be very quick and easy.
Our room with king-size bed looked out across the street to the airport. While we could make out some airport noise, it was fairly well muffled and didn't prevent us from getting to sleep. The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of towels and toiletries.
The hotel itself was, in my opinion, very clean and well kept up. LAX is obviously an old airport and the surrounding hotels reflect that but the Crowne stood out from the others to me.
We stopped by the concierge desk for advice on sight-seeing and found the gentleman who helped us polite and informative. At his suggestion, we took the 40 minute bus ride to Santa Monica but opted to take a $20 cab back as we felt it would be faster and more comfortable.
Upon returning, we stopped by the restaurant for some desert and found the staff to be attentive and the food average.
We woke up the next morning and were checked out and loaded on the shuttle quickly and with no hang-ups.
I agree with previous reviews that this is not a good location for tourists but if you are on business or in between flights with some time to kill, I think this is a fine hotel to stay at.

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza 3/28 to 3/31/06. Although this hotel was very close to the airport, it was actually very difficult to tell. The rooms were clean (loved the duvet and confortable pillows!) The hotel provided a nice gift bag of relaxation tape, earplugs, and sleeping mask but we never needed any of them. We could hardly hear any jet noise even though the airport was just across the street! The pool and hot tub were fantastic (unlike a previous review, the hot tub was perfect the days we were there) and the kids loved experiencing the steam room. I slept better at this hotel than the 4.5 star hotel I stayed at later in the week). Although there wasn't a lot of foo-foo amentities, this hotel would be perfect for someone needing to stay close to the airport.

After a tiring flight from Winnipeg to Los Angeles, I needed to rest for 7 hours before my long haul flight to Malaysia. I went to Travelers Aid at LAX and leafed through their folder for a hotel which had a hot tub because my back was killing me and I really needed to relax before my 16 hour flight to Malaysia. Travelers Aid was very helpful and called several hotels that advertised hot tubs. When Crowne Plaza was contacted, they informed Travelers Aid that their hot tub was working so I checked in with them. The room was okay so I took a nap, had dinner, and then changed to check out the hot tub. That's when I received my rude shock. The so-called working hot tub was cordoned off with yellow warning tape, like a scene from CSI, and when I crawled beneath the tape and dunked my toes into the water, it was freezing cold! I thought perhaps it wasn't turned on so I turned it on. The bubbles came up but the water remained cold while I sat beside the freezing "hot" tub for 15 minutes, shivering my butt off! I went upstairs, completely distressed, and complained to the front office, who, instead of apologizing for it, blamed Travelers Aid, who had done absolutely nothing wrong. Later, when I checked out, they wouldn't look me in the eye and were quite rude when I tried to get my valuables out of the safe deposit box. They wouldn't help me when I told them I didn't know how to work the funky box and finally, after shoving around, I managed to get it open.

Please do not stay at this dump!

This hotel doesn't really deserve a 3* rating. Its more a 2.5* rating in my mind. Anyway, its an adequate airport hotel for over night stay but if your a light sleeper i wouldn't recommend it as the rooms arent really soundproof and the aircraft noise is very very loud! I had to move rooms twice as i couldnt sleep and i dont consider myself a light sleeper. Its no wonder they provide earplugs in an amenity bag on your bed.

Overnighted here on transit; the hotel is merely adequate for an overnight stay .. definitely not a 3* other than for the name.
* Decent shuttle service in and out of the airport
* Cleanish rooms
* Below-average beds and paraphenalia
