“Comfortable.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

We found this property to be rather charming. Check in was fast and easy - and the staff were welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful during our short stay. The room was spacious, clean and had very comfortable beds. The bathroom was clean, with plenty of towels. The breakfast is fairly standard - fruit, cereal, eggs, sausage, breads, muffins and "make your own" waffles. We would definitely stay here again when in the area.

Loved m stay at this hotel. The lobby area is great. The staff is friendly. Stayed here with my husband after our wedding. Maria - front desk clerk, gave us an upgrade to the St. John Suite. It was soooo nice. Maria needs a raise! We enjoyed our stay. However the food (breakfast) could have been better.

The hotel was alright but it was in a sketchy area and I was worried that my car would be stolen. But inside the hotel was great. Breakfast was pretty good. I was lucky to get a faraway room from Gaffey street. Overall the hotel was ok.

Room Tip: Stay as far away from Gaffey street as possible.

The location to USA IOWA is excellent. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is good, but I wish the hotel bar had been stocked and functioning. At least there was a liquor store/bait shop across the street. Would I stay there again? Yes. The staff was very honest and responsive. Security was very good, too.

I opted recently to stay at the Best Western Plus San Pedro Hotel & Suites. I was surprised by how upgraded the feel of the rooms was as I was expecting something more run down. There were a few places in the bathroom where the paint needed to be touched up but it was very minor. What impressed me the most was the size of the room, fairly large, and how updated/nice the decor in the sleeping rooms was. It had a high end feel and I was quite surprised when I walked in. The staff were quite helpful and checked me in early. Quite a few of the people staying there were going on cruise ships and leaving their cars parked at the hotel. That did present something of a challenge as most of the parking spots were taken in the under hotel parking area, so I ended up parking in the outside parking area at the top.

Pros: the decor, cleanliness, the location, good rate
Cons: limited parking, vocal issue down the hall between the staff through a door with someone who had a dog in their room (!) which could have been handled a little more discretely.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel and will probably stay there again.

Hotel staff was very friendly. Check in was quick. Elevators need hotel key card to work which makes it very secure. Room was updated and spacious. There is a restaurant in the hotel but it is only open for breakfast (standard buffet). Not that many places to eat nearby, but Ports-O-Call is close. Hotel is nice and quiet.

Room Tip: on the backside to overlook pool

What a pleasant surprise ! They have kept some of the old light fixtures in the halls, breakfast room and in our room. Makes everything a bit more elegant. The large vanity and sink were separate from the rest of the bathroom and was very nicely appointed. The room was by any standard huge, with a comfortable sofa plus an easy chair. Lighting was good to read by. Bed was very comfortable but our street facing room was a bit noisy although the traffic noise was steady so still had no trouble sleeping. The breakfast was very good and the room doubled as a bar .They had left the original fireplace in the room and it was beautiful. What a nice mix but still with all the modern improvements. There are any number of restaurants in the area from fast food restaurants and up, within a block or a mile of the hotel. We stayed here before boarding a ship for a cruise. With two ships in port it was a bit of a wait to have our turn as I think all the people staying at the hotel must have been there for that purpose. Short drive to the pier so the location of the hotel was great for that. If you did not want to wait I am sure a taxi would not cost much.

Room Tip: If you have trouble sleeping due to any noise, ask for a room not facing Gaffey Street.
