“Breakfast was awesome. Just missing some bacon...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2005

Hi all,
My husband and I were going on a cruise and decided to go a day early to San Pedro so we could do some sightseeing, so we booked at this hotel. It's very close to the port of LA as well as the port o' call villages so that's the main reason we stayed here.

The shuttle service to the port is free with the 'fly & cruise' package so you just have to tip the driver and as far as the hotel staff goes, we had some mixed service but overall they're very sweet and accomodating. We got there early before check-in and they held our luggage so we could go sightseeing asap, but they led us to a side room to leave them in. Now this room had a lot of other junk in it (old beds, lamps that needed repair) so that was a bit of a shock. But hey, it was locked and they were watching it so that wasn't a biggie. After we walked around for a few hours, we went back to the hotel to get our luggage from the side room and then our room keys from the front desk.

Now, the lobby area has a small kisok. We didn't think anything of it until the morning that we were leaving but we should have checked it sooner! It has a listing of eateries and sights in San Pedro, and how to get around with the trolley. You can also print out maps from this kiosk. So you reading this - don't forget to check out the kiosk. We did it but it was too late by then - we found out there was a classic car convention the day we came in. Oh well!

Ohhhh and breakfast the next day was SO good, we were full like we were at a buffet! The only thing missing was meat- sausages or bacon or something, but otherwise they had everything else. There was a belgian waffle station, the juice station (oj, guava juice), there was a cereal station, a mini-bagel station with cream cheese and jam, and a toast and fruit station. Not to mention the coffee and the tea. Needless to say, we were very full and happy. We also grabbed some fruit (bananas, apples & oranges) to take back to our room to snack on.

Now the piece de resistance. The room:
Overall, it was great. It was well-kept and clean. The decor was outdated but we would rather have a clean room than up-to-date furniture. The AC was super-strong (and boy did we need it cuz it was a hot weekend) and the internet connection was fast and cheap. The tv had most channels (mtv, cnn) and there was a little fridge at the bottom of the tv cabinet. The bathroom was kinda small but it didn't bother us at all and the water from the shower was wonderful - strong pressure too. We stayed on the 2nd floor by the way.

So hey, it's a great bargain for the price just for the breakfast alone.

Other things: There's a restaurant next door but we don't recommend it. They had kind of bland food. Instead go to the Beach City Grill about 4 blocks up in the 'downtown' area. They have all kinds of meat and seafood dishes like plantain cakes and crab cakes and pasta and cinnamon iced tea.

shopping and dinning are within a 1 minute to 5 minute walk.
The cruise ship is ported in 4 blocks away you can see it from the hotel front doors.
The hotel was very helpful with every thing needed even the advice of one of there picks for best restaurants within the walking distance 2 of them were highly recommended for the food being the best and they had excellent picks the price and portions were huge and all authentic mexican as well.

The rooms were in excellent shape, very clean, room had a refrigerator and coffee maker and coffee and cups and condiments for it in the rooms.
To cold to use the pool but the pool was clean and clear as well as the hot tub also on the premises.

Just stayed the night here on feb 24,2004 and will say it is a great place to stay if you need to catch a cruise ship the next day. Its right across the street from the cruise terminal and they offer shuttle and park and stay options. The hotel is old and shows it the rooms are just that a bed and shower. The carpets were dirty and the rooms need a overhaul. Dont even think about getting in the jucuzzi did not look good!!! Any way if you need a room and want to be close to the ship it will work.

A nice hotel, extremely friendly and helpfull staff. Parking is an issue but the staff will help you find should you have a problem finding one, they even offered us to leave the car keys with them and have it double parked.

Price... the original price is a little expensive, but we got a good deal from the main Best Western office after mentioning to them that the price was a lot.

They offer parking (for a nominal fee, that is cheaper than the cruise ship parking price) for the length of the cruise.

Highly recommended!!

We booked this hotel based on three criteria. We needed parking, internet and a guest laundry. The web site showed the hotel had all three so we booked. Guess how many of these things we actually had. NONE!!! The parking was a shambles. We were doubled parked which was a nightmare, There was NO guest laundry and there was NO internet access in the rooms. It is dark smelly and dinghy. Pay the taxi fare from a decent hotel at Long Beach. I wish we had!!!!

We stayed at the Best Western 1 night prior to our cruise. It was a great place to stay before (or after) a cruise. It is not though an area that I would stay in if I were vacationing in the area. There are probably better "resort" places to stay. To be fair, we found the hotel clean and a nice staff. Things could use a bit of updating, but again, it was clean and a safe place to relax after flying in from Chicago. There is a great family restaurant about 200 feet away, and free shuttle to the ship which you can see from the hotel. The Ports of Call area is full of great little places to eat and kill a day shopping before going out on a cruise. Overall a good place to lay your head for a night or 2.
