“First class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2014

Mahi Mahi cooked to perfection and a sublime turnip and cream puree. Plated so well that you know the kitchen takes pride in what it puts out. So nice to dine in an establishment where the chef not only has a talent for inovative cooking but can do it with each dish. Visiting LA for 2 weeks, all the restaurant food was good but this was outstanding. Went with wife and daughter on daughters recommendation as she lives here and is a foodie, Top choice and very inexpensive compared to
other first class restaurants. Will make it a stop next time in LA

“Great neighborhood place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

I highly recommend you try Nook. It is very aptly named. Tucked in the corner of a non-descript West Side strip mall just outside the 405 on Santa Monica, this is hidden gem. Parking can be a challenge. It is also exactly what a bistro should be --- French influenced comfort food, prepared in a unique way, in a stylish, sparse environment. Good service and also a neighborhood kind of place. I highly recommend the short ribs, the short ribs ragout, chicken paillard and shrimp and grits. I eat here 6 times a year and it is always great. Try the ginger beer too.

“best go to restaurant on the westside.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

I grew up mostly on the westside part of LA. I tell you, that area has countless restaurants from japanese to korean to mexican. You want it they have it. Nook is situated on an odd shopping center. Actually, you would never guess a good resto would be. On the corner of the shopping center you will find a small modern minimalist restaurant. This is my go-to place for date nights or a drink or two or just simply if i just want, Dinner. This restaurant is actually one of my favorite spots. They not only have give their dinners awesome ambiance but the dishes are killer. The food is exactly what a bistro food should serve.

The pork chop is right on the money. The potatoes that comes with it is perfection. They also give you a boiled peanuts to pick on before you are dinner which was a nice touch. The wine list is not shabby either. Shitake mushroom gruyere is incredible. Oh my, caeliac disease or not, I cannot resist! Hmmm, thinking about this makes a girl happy.

I also love the communal table. For people like me who also like enjoying eating by myself, it is perfect. Maybe a make a friend or two if u want. LOL

Do call for reservation is it´s on the weekend and maybe dinner rush hour.

“A place to enjoy with friends and good company”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2012

We were over from London and visted Nook with friends. Brian the owner was great and made us feel very welcome. The food was fantastic. The menu speaks of quality rather than over sized portions of quantity. Value was great and service warm and welcoming as well as well attended to at all times.
Nice selection of wines to try aswell. Book, sit and enjoy....!!

“Great Dining Experience Tucked Away in This Nook”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

We arrived famished after a day up the hill exploring the Getty Museum. Now, I warn you, it's a little hard to find "Nook"--the entrance is totally out of view from the street. Park in the lot at to this address and look in the corner of this "L" shaped area. There you'll find "Nook." They weren't kidding with this name.
We were fortunate to get a table--it was filled when we arrived on this Friday evening (Jan. 13), and we began at the "common table" in the room's center--but soon a helpful maitre 'd ushered us to a table whose patrons failed to arrive on time. We were surrounded by young professionals and theatre patrons who were about to catch a performance. "Nook" appeals, we saw, to diners of all ages, except, perhaps, children. The menu is eclectic, varied, organic in the sense that you knew your dinner's ingredients had been on display in a produce market earlier that day.
The staff was friendly, very professional, attentive but not intrusive.
The salad was delicious, the entrees superb, and we opted for a dessert--something we rarely do--and our party of 3 split it--just the right end to a fabulous meal.
We'd never have known about "Nook" had not one of the young adults in the group done a search on her iPhone for unique places in the area of the Getty/Santa Monica.
Try Nook. You'll be delighted.
