“BEST PLACE TO STAY IF VISITING UNIVERSAL STUDIOS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2010

I stayed here recently for 4 nights with my husband and son, mainly to visit universal studios. We are Hilton Honor members and this was one of the most professional and efficient Hiltons we have ever stayed in. Check in was fast, the man at the desk gave us all the information in regards to the hotel we needed for our stay, he then walked us to the elevators and sent us on our way to our room on the executive level.
The room had a great view of Universal Studios, it was very clean with everything we needed. Each afternoon we would receive a tray of fresh fruit, cookies, chocolates, cake and bottled water..WOW WHAT A TREAT. Walking to Universal is pretty easy once you do it for the first time, if you dont like to walk (approx 10 mins) the hotel has a free shuttle bus. The pool was great, very relaxing, on nice lawns, and a big hot tub, tucked away for privacy. We ate at the buffet a few times, great value for money and again excellent service (the chef noticed my son looking through all the peaches..they were not ripe, so chef went out back and came back with 3 ripe ones just for him). Hilton Universal is amazing, I will be back!!!!

We stayed at this hotel on three separate occasions during our trip to California. Each night our accommodations were wonderful, especially the upgrade to the alcove king room we received on the last night. Beautiful room, big bathroom, wonderful view of CityWalk and hills. Each night we were given a lovely fruit plate with delicious chocolates. The only negative is that you have to pay for parking but that must be the norm in California as we were charged at each hotel but one.

We had a rough start to this stay, through no fault of the hotel, we left the GPS in Australia we got lost on the way from the airport, 3 hours later, in a foreign country, straight off the plane, we were very, very stressed out!

The staff were excellent, let me vent about our horror trip, and got us all checked in without any further hassel... We used the concierge desk for directions and information, and they were also fantastic... The bathroom was large and clean, the water pressure was excellent! The bed was perfect, soft yet firm, and the TV was a large LCD screen.

The location was perfect for us, the Camarillo Premium outlets were a 40 min trip up the freeway away, Universal Studios were a short walk away, and well worth the visit, and the Hollywood walk of fame is a 10 min walk and one stop on the Metro away...

This Hotel was everything you'd expect from a Hilton and really the bar pretty high for the other hotels we stayed at in our trip.

My most recent stay here was the perfect staycation. Completely forgot that the Alcove Room option was selected when the reservation was made, so I was surprised and thrilled upon entering the room. Look at the recent photos I uploaded for this hotel - the Alcove room is amazing and the view was absolutely gorgeous! Overlooking the valley. We were ecstatic. It was beautiful.

The front desk staff and bellhops were warm, welcoming, and courteous, as usual, and the room service attendants were welcoming and helpful as well.

I love staying at this hotel because even though the area is always busy, the hotel is like a retreat - always quiet and always feels like home. It's so nice to just walk around and enjoy the different things going on in the hotel or right outside by the park.

This time around we went to the famous Steak & Seafood buffet --- man oh man, it was worth it. I saved my appetite all day specifically for this event, and it was heavenly. The front of Cafe Sierra is lined up and down with Sternos of delicious food, then the inside of the restaurant has even MORE food! My favorite parts - the dessert bar and...get ready for it...wait for it...wait for it... --- the chocolate AND white chocolate fondue fountains! :D I told you - HEAVEN! Oh it was magical. I went to bed a happy, happy girl that night full, full of delicious food and chocolate-dipped goodness.

The purpose of the stay was to relax and unwind, and this proved (once again) to be the perfect place for that. The good news: we had better dining experiences than in the past and I'd happily stay here again. I love that the hotel caters to different groups - business, families, extended stay, overnight - they're willing to accommodate whatever you need.

I highly recommend staying here, even just for a staycation. Relax, eat, enjoy the sights - it's a GREAT hotel. I'm happily a regular - the experience is worth every penny!

We stayed here for a conference my wife was attending, so the rate was not bad, but I would not pay the regular rate. The first room we got, upon asking for a quiet room, overlooked the Hollywood Freeway, but we were given the opportunity to switch to another room, this one facing Universal Studios. The hotel is semi-eloegant, especially in the lobby areas, but overall has an outdated feel, from the decor to the older, non-flat-screen televisions. I had requested an alcove room, and was to pay $10 extra for this, but this request seems to have gotten lost (I did pay the regular conference rate). Parking was $17 for self parking. Wi Fi was not outrageously priced (about $10), but to print, you had to jump through hoops, seemingly using a third party vendor connected with the hotel, with print jobs coming out in the business center, and there was a minimum printing charge of something like $3-4 each time you printed (best to save up any printing jobs or the cost would quickly add up). I went to the business center to print, but the process was confusing there, with the representative on duty unable to reach the support technician.

We asked if we could check out a little late (we were leaving the last day of the conference but not until 4, when the conference ended; we hoped to leave about 1:30). The desk clerk on duty said no, without asking what time we wanted to leave, saying that we were there with a conference if she let us stay late, everyone would want to (another representative later said okay).

The hotel is within walking distance of Universal Studios and City Walk (shops and restaurants). There is a shuttle from the hotel to Universal Studios and back, but it stopped about 5 p.m. (notmuch use for dining out at City Walk). There is a shuttle between Universal Studios and the bottom of the hill (from where you just need to cross a street to access busses and subway) but did not, as far as I could see, stop at the hotel. I found it fairly easy to take a bus to NBC Studios to see a show taping. We took the subway to briefly visit Hollywood.

Our trip to the USA started and ended in LA, we stayed at the Hilton, 4 nights then 3 nights on return so we got a good feel for the place.

Hotel: The rooms were clean and above average with adequate amounts of space so I didn't feel claustrophobic and we got a view of the daily traffic outside the window.

Service: We found the service was excellent, nothing was too hard for the staff at reception, the hotel managers were kind and helpful, we wanted to eat cereal in our rooms every morning (as we would be eating out for lunch and dinner daily) and we requested a little fridge as there was none other than the bar fridge which we said we did not want access to, the hotel manager had a small fridge sent up right away which was very convenient for daily milk storage. All in all very happy with the service.

Breakfast: On the return trip we did have daily buffet breakfast at the hotel which was great as there was a lot of variety, you could either have the continental breakfast or the full breakfast which was based on an honesty system.

Appearance: The appearance of the hotel was somewhat outdated however it was still in good order.

Amenities: They even have a business center which came useful for printing documents and such things which we used to print our trip info.

When we do visit LA again, I would definitely stay at this hotel again, simply because of the location, it is a 5 minute drive to the main tourist attractions (hollywood blvd), and its a 5 minute walk from the hotel to Universal City walk and Universal Studios.

This was the designated hotel for a conference (held elsewhere) that I attended.

First impression of hotel was soured by division of duties / labour between people "greeting " you outside front door and bellman - apparently there's a difference in responsibilities and the former can't help arrange luggage to room. I was corrected by the former and dont really need a insincere 'have a good day" afterwards

Room was large and comfortable, although rather dated decor. No complaints about quality of the bed though as I slept soundly.

Good choices at buffet for breakfast. Evening meal was less successful with slow, surly service - if my drink had been "placed" any harder on the table, I think the glass would have broken

Fitness centre is a depressing, dingy joke - looks as its just cobbled together from a few guest rooms. Couple of cardio machines and free weights, no facilities to stretch / cool down....not somewhere to get a thorough workout

Booking a car...glacial, disinterested service and staff couldn't remember details during the conversation.

Maybe the hotel works for leisure travellers but if you want anything in a hurry as a business traveller, don't bother
