“You get what you pay for.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2011 via mobile

I have been staying at the Sportsmen's Lodge for years because of its convenience to family I visit. It has a funky charm but needs serious updating if it ever wants to be more than a decent budget family hotel. Carpets throughout are worn and ugly, furnishings basic, and amenities minimal. That being said, rooms are large and the staff is friendly. And, the price is fair for what it is (although I think charging for parking at a place like this is wrong).

Wow!, I've stayed here twice in the past month. First, there are better priced hotels. This is a family hotel or more a hotel for senior citizens. The photos give the impression that its this trendy Hollywood hotel in Studio city. Get over it real quick. The carpet is dated in the halls and rather than place it they just steam decades of cigarette smoke and what ever out leaving a constant stench in the hallways. There's literally 20 shades of floral wall paper all over the place, the rooms look more like a Florida condo rental, the room service is horrible and way over priced, and the service makes you feel like you're standing in line at KMart. Let me why. I was standing in line in the lobby at the front desk when a girl behind the desk yelled out, "I can help the next customer in line". Need I say any more. Bottom line, this is an over priced hotel with a staff that has no idea what real "hotel' guest services are.

This is a great place tucked into the middle of everything. The bed was soooo comfortable. Great view overlooking the pool. Staff was really friendly and helpful! Perfect setting to tour the area or to have a quiet place away from it all. recommended to me by a movie star friend, this is the "Best secret in town!" A must stay!

Very clean in our room - great bed to sleep in. In fact, I would say that it's the best hotel night's sleep that I've ever had away from home. Loved the nice high pressure showers (one of my "must - have's". Pricing was good - we booked well in advance so that we could get a decent rate.
We would stay here again when we have business in the valley. It's not fancy, but for the price, it was great. People were friendly. Hotel recommended B & W Limo as transfer to and from the airports. They were great, and I would recommend them again too!

Room Tip: Ask and pay for a pool view. Others not so good.

We chose the Sportsmen's Lodge as the most convenient place to stay for our friends' wedding this month; the ceremony and reception were both at the Event Center next door. The grounds were lovely for the wedding, and we found the location to be excellently sited for all we were doing for the weekend.
The rooms are frankly just a touch
worn in a spot or two, but they
were spotlessly clean each of the four days we stayed, and we always felt safe -- both VERY important to us, much more so than up-to-the-second decor, and we consider that to be the biggest contributions to the great value! And the mattress and bedding were soooooo
comfortable.... Wonderful!
Even after we had left, when I realized I had left one item behind
and called from the road to have it
sent, Jose at the front desk was great and had it shipped to me immediately. Clean, convenient, comfortable and courteous: I'd definitely stay here again with no question!

Let's start with check-in.
Waited for bell person to come out and help with luggage. Never came.

You are forced to make reservations over internet. We did. Specifically requested king bed. So, while dragging all of our own luggage, was sent to a room with two doubles.

Ate at restaurant. Ran out of napkins. That's not a exaggeration or joke.

Went back to room, still a bit before 12pm. Locked out. If you haven't checked out by 12pm, they locked you out. A maid had to let us in.

Then, with another person in our party. She booked, OVER INTERNET, for 2 nights. They told her only 1. I literally had to bring my laptop with the reservation showing it to their front desk. They corrected it before I pulled out the laptop, but why would they make that error if everything is booked in computer. Her reservation confirmation should be no different than what is in their computer.

Disappointed as we keep going here every few months but it's been getting worse with service.

Even though the hotel was comfortable and convenient, the rooms were pretty dated. The balcony of my room and the next one to it had a secondary fence to prevent anyone from falling through the original rotting railing that was still in place. There was no mini bar in the room. The public areas were ok and had obviously been upgraded. The staff was friendly and efficient in all areas.
