We stayed at the Mikado because of its location, which is very close to alot of the sites we wanted to visit. Right off the bat, we had trouble getting in our hotel room because the key only occassionally (and I mean occassionally) worked.
I sent my niece (who's 18) and my two small children to the lobby to get sodas the first night we were there. When they came back to the room, they said there was a man outside hiding behind the bushes watching them. Less than a 1/2 hour later the guy working the desk that night shows up at our room saying we were slamming doors (hello! We couldn't even get in most the time, much less slam the doors) and had a dog. We do not have a dog and have not for several years. Then when I spoke with him about it, he claimed the kids were had lied to me! The rooms had very thin walls and you could hear everything (and I mean everything) going on outside, above your room, or next to it.
While the rooms were clean and nicely decorated, I was not at all pleased with the rudeness directed at my children whenever they would speak with someone at the desk about getting a towel (which they were completely out of for the first day of our stay) or anything. If the adult goes up to the desk, he was just as nice and helpful with directions as could be.
The hotel would be ok, if you do not have children along. I would not recommend it if you do. I tried to speak with the manager, but he apparently is only there once a day for about 15 minutes according to the employees.
It was a shame, because the location was great for all the major attractions.
