I was looking for a hotel close to LAX as my family was flying into LAX in on Thursday(18th October) and returning back to Sydney on Friday evening(19 October) at 9:15pm. I didn't want to stay in Hollywood as we have an 18month old son, and really didn't want to do alot of traveling back and forth on the day. We really just wanted to "relax/wind down" before our return to Australia.
The MOST important requirement was that the hotel be "clean" and offer a "late checkout" option-6:30p.m(additional fee was perfectly acceptable)., as our flight was departing LAX at 9:15pm and we didnt' want to get stuck sitting around LAX international with an 18 month old with nothing to do(those of you familiar with LAX international.......CAN RELATE-I need say no more) if we were reqired to abide by most standard hotels 12:00pm check-out times-any other perks the hotel had to offer us would be an added bonus.
We looked at the reviews from the "Courtyard Marriott" and noticed it had just undergone a recent full renovation and was receiving mostly positive reviews from tripadvisor users, so it seemed like the most obvious choice as we wanted to stay within the Marriott hotel organisation.
I called Marriotts' US reservations and enquired as to rates and availability for this location-to which availabilities were on offer, it was only when I enquired about the "late check-out" option, and after their US reservations customer service employee contacted the hotel directly to advise me that a late check out was NOT an option-I would have to pay a Full Days Rate to check out later than the normal check-out time (again we were requesting a late check out time of 6:30p.m.).
I then turned my attenton to Los Angeles Airport Marriott-once again calling their US reservations centre to checking pricing/availability and late check-out options with their reservation representative. Upon checking with the hotel directly, the representative advised me "yes-late check-out is available for a US$75.00 fee". "BONUS". I chose a single king sized bed on an high floor with pool views with access to the concierge lounge for my family for $279.00/night + $75.00 late check-out fee.
I then proceeded to review the comments left on tripadvisor-some good, some not so good-but I thought "nobodys perfect???right??? lets see what happens-in a positive light".
We arrived at LAX on Thursday, roughly at 815p.m. exhausted from the 5 hour flight-got our baggage and proceeded to the shuttle pick-up area to go to the hotel.
Upon Arriving- as I was walking inside I noticed a Starbuck's Coffee and thought to myself "looking good so far"....we proceeded to the Conserciege check-in and were waited on by a very nice employee who was a "trainee", but extremely polite non-the-less. I provided him with our reservation details and he was able to pull up the reservation, but couldn't find any particulars regarding the reservation (I.E. late check-out, concierge lounge access, high floor with pool views ect). He politely advised me that the hotel had very few vacancies and that we would be on the 5th floor. I wasn't impressed with this detail, but went up anyway. When we got to the room it wan't facing the pool, it was facing traffic-I was Very dissappointed to say the least. I pulled up our reservation details contained within the confirmation e-mail-which actually stated the particulars of our reservation and proceeded downstairs to concierge to see if this issue could be resolved. The original concierge employee was pre-occupied helping another guest, so we were helped by another very nice/polite gentleman. I explained what was going on and showed him the original e-mail from Marriott outlining the details of our reservation(lounge access, high floor room with pool views, late check-out ect.), he was very apologetic and advised me that they were truly booked up, but he would see what/if he could to
to rectify our situation. He came back a short while later and advised me that he didn't have any rooms available on a higher floor, but he could provide me with a room with 2 double beds and a poolside view. "I'll take it", I advised.. as we were already on the 5th floor it was only a reletively short walk to our new room. In a word "FANTASTIC"-a nice little balconey quiet and very clean room.
We ordered a hamburger, glass of wine, and desert(hot chocolate cake) from room service it arrived within 30minuted and was not only still hot, but absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
We awoke Friday Morning (19th October), and proceeded to the concierge lounge for breakfast and again encountered the most wonderful/pleasent mature aged employee who said hello to us and true to form was very, very, nice to our son. We struck-up a conversation to which she told us about her 3 grandchildren currently in Germany she proceeded and was polite enough to show us a picture.
We proceeded back to our room-specifically the balconey to look at the pool below and decided that would be our little "excursion" for the day. We were just about to leave when we discovered the safe in our room wasn't working, to which maintenance arrived promptley and fixed the problem on top of replacing our defective coffee machine for a working unit. The Maintenance worker was a young African American (I apologise I don't remember his or anyones names) man who through conversation told us he had previously worked behind the counter for roughly 2 years-he told us that we had just recently missed the space shuttle landing at LAX to which he was gracious enough to show us photos and a video-VERY, VERY COOL(Again I cannot Stress HOW POLITE/PROFESSIONAL/Respectful this young individual was-Truly an asset to the Marriott organisation). He replaced the batteries, apologised and left. We then realised we needed "little swimmer" nappies-I ran downstairs to the Marriotts giftshop to which they advised me they didn't have any, but offered to call a couple of local stores to see if they could locate some for me. They contacted CVS, whch had them in stock-to which I took a short (5-7minute) taxi ride to procure said nappies(Again-VERY, VERY HELPFUL/POLITE).
We had our excursion to the swimming pool area - Very nice I must say, the poolside attendant/employee was extremely polite. Our son absolutely LOVED his first experiece in a pool.
We finished off the day with a luch at the hotels restraunt-which is were we had the pleasure of meeting "Willie" our Waiter. He was Amazing-polite-upbeat and made an amazing recommendaton of the turkey burger, which I can honestly say I would never normally entertain the thought of consuming, but enjoyed every minute of it along with the apple cobbler.
Thanks Willie-your're the Best
The only issue that we experienced was with the WiFi-which apparently only made allowances for 1 guest, even if there were two individuals in the room who needed access at the same time. We found it difficult to sign-in to the service, and roaming through out the hotel trying to utalise the WiFi signal seemed difficult, But really that's just splitting hairs.
I would rate the hotel, it's staff, and our experience a 9.995 on a scale of 1-10.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to our family and friends and will deffinately be staying here again if the opportunity arrises.
I would like to give a very heartfelt sincere Aussie "Thank-you" to all of those wonderful employees we were lucky enough to come in contact with during our brief stay.
We stayed in room 5050 and thought it was excellent-the balconey is really great as we have
