This hotel is above average given its location near the airport. I've often found that hotels near the airport are often dungy and un-kept - that was not the case with the Marriott at LAX.

That being said, the service was quite poor:

- We called the morning of our arrival to ask if our room could be available for early check-in. We were assured that it would be no problem. Upon arrival 3 hours later, we were surprised to find that our room was not available, and we had to be down-graded to a lesser room in order to check-in early. The front desk person was so rude that I almost asked to speak with the manager, until I realized that the rude person WAS the front desk manager!

- I didn't have access to a car in LA (I know, I'm crazy) so I needed to know how to reach my office via public transportation. I asked twice, and twice I was promised a call back in my room once they found someone who could answer my question (no one knew their way around LA, and no one had a bus map?!)

- Overall, we felt that they are used to people staying either for conferences (which means they didn't have a choice where to stay) or only for one night (if their flight was cancelled). So they don't care to ensure repeat customers since most of their business is one-time only.

Some positives:
- Wonderful pool area, very clean (and I'm picky!) and not that busy (it's mostly business travelers who are in a conference all day long) - this was the hotel's biggest plus as far as we were concerned
- Starbucks in lobby (very convenient)
- Very comfy beds

  • Liked — Large and clean pool area - and you have it all to yourself
  • Disliked — Poor service

I stayed here for one Friday night on business. Arrived at 10 pm and hotel reception was packed with flight crews and people who missed flights. The front desk processed the line very fast. The room was a typical Marriott - clean and comfortable. Dinner at Champions Sports Bar was typical pub fare. Service was excellent. Free airport shuttle to forever to get to the hotel from the airport due to the number of stops it had to make.

At $160.00/night, you'd think this "five star" hotel would be giving free foot massages the minute you check in. Well, what can I say? Aside from being only two blocks from LAX, it's an overpriced dinosaur sticking up in the California skyline... this hotel is so old, I'm half expecting to see Jayne Mansfield pull up to the front door in a 1961 Edsel. The good: friendly staff. The bad: OVERFRIKINPRICED!!! You know, that you have to pay $13 bucks a day just to check your email bugs me. That you have to pay $30 bucks a day to park a car (park at one of the MANY nearby airport parking lots, WAYYYYY cheaper) is laughable. The sports bar called "Champions" should be called "Shack du $8 Coors and Baskets of Grease we call food". It should be standard inexpensive pub fare, but no.... it doesn't matter what you eat in there, you can expect a minimum of a $20.00 charge/person/meal/perhaps. The Steakhouse smells great, too bad you can't afford to change your mind if you decide to fork out $38 bucks for an $8 dollar strip loin. Breakfast in Latitude 33 is $12.95 or GASP $16.95 for the buffet... all designed to upsell your order.
The rooms: fairly moderinish, although the colours are basically brown and rust. Small TV's with the most BASIC of cable available. Bathroom is nicely appointed but the tub might as well be a galvanized steel basin, it's that small! Maids come in around 10:00 am and while they don't steal anything, they don't exactly clean the place up other than make the bed, dump the trash cans and vacuum. I still have newspapers in my room where I left them three days ago and this is day five of my one week business trip. The windows are FILTHY times infinity. It's like someone splashed a bucket of swamp water on them and left the dirt to cake on for a week. NO excuse for that whatsoever.
All told, the LAX Airport Marriott is a drab old building with a throw together facelift, insulting prices, crummy maid service and overpriced everything. Glad my company paid for this trip. If I am in LA again, I am staying at the Super 8.

The hotel meets the normal Marriott quality standards. In comparison with other airport hotels, I would rate it above average in terms of cleanness of the rooms and silence. One advice: if you ask the Courtyard shuttle driver nicely (there is a seperate shuttle service for the Courtyard and the Marriott hotel), he might also drive you to the Marriott. This worked perfectly for us as we could directly catch the Courtyard shuttle when we left the terminal

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as part of a package deal. The shuttle service to and from the airport was very convenient. Our flight arrived at 12:30pm and we were able to check in immediately.

The staff was very busy because of the Rose Bowl and several weddings / conventions, but they were still very polite and attentive. We ate at Champion's one night and the service was very good. The food was typical bar fare and was reasonably priced.

The room was very nice. It seemed a little bit smaller than newer hotels, but the decor was new and the bed was very comfortable.

My only real complaint was that not all the elevators were operational and at one point there were about 25 people waiting for an elevator to show up.
